Party like it's 2019!

Assuming that a) we have a Biden administration but a Republican Senate, b) we have vaccine distribution under the new administration so that a majority of people are vaccinated by Memorial Day, and c) the economy doesn't go completely belly up:

1. What do you intend to do this summer that you would have done in 2020 if not for the Trump virus?

2. What (if anything) do you intend to do that you probably wouldn't have done if the Trump virus hadn't blown everything up last year?

For me, it's 1) a month-long camping trip in Canada and 2) retire. (They've offered me a pretty good package, and as I'm only teaching two days a week online now, I'm tempted to grab it.)

I chuckle when Kevin argues that Biden will magically speed vaccine distribution and dosing.  Kevin calls Biden's setting up a panel "leadership".  I believe that leadership is performance related, while in Kevin's world he only needs a panel.

The Operation Warp Speed group has been speeding us along since it's inception and is still doing so.

RETIRE?

If you are 65, you can do it.

Out of debt? House paid for?

I retired @ 62 1/2 and that was a mistake. I had to pay out of pocket for my health insurance! @ 65, my medicare was begun-ahh, that's better.

I was planning a 'Vegas trip in 2020, but that idea blew up.

You're a fool, Boiler. And for God's sake, learn to spell simple words such as "its."

Biden won't use magic. He'll use science and competence. And he won't be jerking off on the golf course when he should be doing his job.

My 2020 plans became my new-improved 2021 plans. Very tentative round the world trip: Dublin, London, Barcelona, Rome, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo. Airfare (in economy) 95% paid for with credit card sign-up points. Thanks, American Express!

Getting back to the original question.....

I was fortunate enough to be able to retire at 56. During the pandemic, I haven't been traveling at all, which has been more annoying than I would have imagined. It really makes me appreciate the freedom I have to do that.

Whenever I do get the vaccine, I think I'll be doing a lot more traveling. Vegas at least 2x in the first year, gathering with family, fishing at Reelfoot in TN (which has now been on my list for almost 40 years), and (when I can finally convince my wife to retire) a four-month tour of Europe (assuming they'll have us then) with one month each in Spain, Italy, France and a return to Ireland.

Once the pandemic subsides, concerts, car races, visit as many nat'l parks as possible, return to the gym and visit far away friends and family.

Good luck to all who are recently retired and soon to be retired.  I retired in 2015 at age 66, I highly reccomend  retirement.

Kevin, logistics has nothing to do with science.  Trumps entire career is based on successfully managing logistics and cutting red tap, while Biden's entire career is based spending wealth that created by other and on creating red tape.

For a minute there I thought there might be an interesting subject to discuss but unfortunately it's turning into another political shit show.

Rosemarie, I used to think similarly when someone started a good topic.  Even other Forums are being invaded.

We have a family reunion booked around July 4th, Lake Junaluska, close to Asheville NC.  Normally I'd have already registered for our rooms, etc.  Last fall it seemed that summer 2021 would surely be far enough away to make plans.  Now I'm not so sure.
