Putting Chicago violence in perspective

You said the reason that Australia doesn't have guns and gun violence is because of laws.

Just saying the laws will be, as always are, broken. And that the fact that it is an island makes it that much easier to control the gun population.

Yes. But a law that is sometimes broken is still more effective than no law at all. As far as Australia goes, that law is NOT broken very often at all. A twelvefold decrease in homicides is one effect of the law.

One can also increase penalties and/or enforcement if a law is being broken too often. Think: traffic laws.

The fact that Australia is an island makes no real difference. Thousands of planes and ships come to Australia every month.

Well, it's been 10 days since I last posted on the murders in Chicago.  And I have actually found something I can agree with that came from Stuck on Stupid aka Kevin.  Eliminate the guns!  What a great idea!  Now, all you have to do is get that passed into law!  Good luck with that.

And in the last 10 days here, the weather has cooled off, so only 23 more murders in the last 10 days.  Heaven only knows how many shootings have taken place.  The murders continue.  And they will continue because the press here is simply not interested in having them stop.  I don't see a question in sight for Mayor Lightfoot or Governor Pritzker.  628 murders and no one has the audacity to ask them a question about what they think should be done.

Point of fact to Sanchez who lived here for 23 years.......the most dangerous area in the city currently is Austin.  Austin is on the far west side and has had 60 murders so far this year.  Yes, West Garfield Park (where I grew up), North Lawndale, Humboldt Park (all on the west side), as well as south side Englewood, West Englewood, Chatham, South Shore and others are also exceedingly dangerous as well.

Maybe they will try to do something to help these folks next year.......you know, like after the election.  I, for one doubt that they will do anything.

Funny you should mention that. If the Congress and President are in agreement next year, they could pass a simple law. If someone is murdered with a gun in Chicago and an Indiana gun dealer knowingly sold the murder weapon to a straw purchaser across state lines, the dealer is guilty of accessory to murder. That should take care of a lot of it. See, easy!

If you say that someone is "aKa" some name, that implies that they are known by both names. I am not known as "Stuck on Stupid" by anyone other than lvfritz, aka "Trumper Moron."

I was not aware that "the press" is responsible for law enforcement in Chicago, but hey, maybe so. If Trumper Moron, er, lvfritz says so, perhaps it's true!
