The Republican variant--a disease that keeps on giving

I'm a risk vs reward guy, and I enjoy life maskless while in close proximity to others..............I'm a social guy.  I realize that this could put me at higher risk.  Getting into my car and driving to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard also puts me at risk.  After all, I would certainly be "safer" staying at home, but I choose to risk a car accident in return for a tasty DQ treat.

Boiler, that's like saying that speed limits on the highway are fine "for those who want them." Vaccinations aren't only about your own health; they're also about the health of others. If you're really "a social guy," then you should care about exposing others to a disease that could kill them. (And yes, you can do that even if you're asymptomatic, even if you're vaccinated, or even if you've contracted covid and recovered.)

Obviously, your Dairy Queen analogy is ridiculous. The risk of driving a few miles is very small. But let's say that there was a way to make that risk much, much smaller, and such a measure would take you about fifteen minutes and cost you nothing. Wouldn't you do that? Now, let's suppose the risk of your Dairy Queen trip was such that about 1 in 600 people who drive to Dairy Queen are killed in the process. Let's also say that the safety measure to prevent that was the same as described above. Wouldn't you spend that fifteen minutes? Or would you not bother, and blithely take the risk?

Let me be clear, though--I don't care if Republicans die. They can FREEDUMB their way right into the grave if they want. I care that their behavior is making life much more difficult for the rest of us.

An interesting example given.   The state of Indiana mandates you put a seat belt on when you take that trip to Dairy Queen. Do you follow that mandate? The mandate is designed to minimize your risk.  I didn't follow that mandate to take a 60-second trip once. I crossed the rural street from the Dollar store parking lot to the post office parking lot and got a ticket. Am I entitled to a refund for this big government oppression?

Boiler seems not to understand that what he's really talking about is risk versus cost. What is the risk from not being vaccinated? Considerable. What is the cost to eliminate or at least minimize that risk? Negligible. (Maybe fifteen minutes of your time, and no money.)

So not eliminating a major risk by incurring a tiny cost is just dumb, dumb, dumb, which I understand describes perfectly the nimrods who voted for Trump--but still, why on earth are so many of them being so stupid, especially at this late date when there's more than enough data to conclusively prove that the vaccines don't make you grow antlers?

I am BTW perfectly OK with the government forcing people to act responsibly in matters of public health. The RepubliQ can bleat all they want about SOOOOOOCIALIST oppression and FREEDUMB, but the truth is that if you live in human society, you don't and shouldn't have absolute freedom to act however you wish.
