The Stupidity of the "Green New Deal"

The author of the article is a Tesla investor.

The cost of 7cents per kwh is way off.  The national average is 15 cents per kwh.  Using the national average the cost is $60.  In addition, the time to recharge an electric truck is almost 2 hours.  So if a truck is 4th in line it will take almost all day to recharge (assuming one can find a charging station).  Trucks are expected to make their deliveries within a time frame or be penalized  Frequent all day delays could be expensive.

Then we have the ongoing issue, with a lithium shortage, overdependence on China, blocking of lithium mining in the US, the current US electrical is close to maxed out & the blocking of new electrical plant construction.

Stupid Tommie-poo, the nations of the world "depend" on one another for pretty much every good and commodity on the planet. No nation is self-sufficient. So we need lithium--from China or Mars or whatever. Fine. We'll trade for it, the way nations do. We produce stuff that China and the Martians and whoever want. That's how it works, stupid Tommie-poo. It makes us no more "dependent" on other nations than you are "dependent" on your employer or a business is "dependent" on its customers. If anything, the nations of the world are interdependent.

Stupid Tommie-poo.

So we need lithium--from China or Mars or whatever. Fine. We'll trade for it, the way nations do.

With China threatening to invade Taiwan, that supply of lithium could be cut off.  Even if China does not invade, if the US becomes overly dependent on Chinese lithium, we are at their mercy.  They could force the US to give up its support for Taiwan, South Korea & Japan

Not a good option to be dependent on a country whose goal is domination.

That would be remotely possible if China was the world's only source of lithium--it isn't--if it were unwilling to trade with the rest of the world regardless of politics--when in reality, it's a trading nation--and if we couldn't ever ever ever ever ever make any kind of batteries without lithium if we had to.

Stupid Tommie-poo lives in the last century.

Stupid Kevin. China controls 77% of lithium battery cell production.  So we are beholden to China.

The more we need lithium, the more control China has.

Kevin & the rest of the LVA squad think lithium is as easy as  picking apples

Thats why Joe Biden included a 3 billion dollar investment into mining more Lithium on shore and more importantly is investing more into recycling lithium out of used batteries.

And if Tom wants to argue about foreign countries and their impact on natural resources  I'll be happy to point him to the oil-rich  Middle East and the countless wars and occupations at a cost of trillions - all of which Tom fervently supported.   (And thats not counting the cost of the never ending parade of climate disasters happening as a direct result from 2 centuries of burning rocks dug out of the ground.)

In any event- the future of automobiles has already been decided by our free market automobile companies - all of whom point to EV..

So Tom is going to have to find some socialist country that overrides the free market progress in technology if he wants to continue to drive his Lincoln Navigator.    Cuba likes ancient cars.  Maybe Tom would be happy living there.

What liberals give; they also take away.

Ioneer Ltd. seeks to build its Rhyolite Ridge lithium-boron project in Nevada, but the Australian company has been unable to get federal permits because public lands near the site are home to the endangered wildflower Tiehm’s buckwheat. The US Fish and Wildlife Service said in February it planned to designate about 910 acres near the project as a critical habitat for the pale yellow flower.

The Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada is also held up.

Geothermal projects are also held up

RENO, Nev. -- Conservationists and tribal leaders are suing the U.S. government to try to block construction of two geothermal plants in northern Nevada’s high desert that they say will destroy a sacred hot springs and could push a rare toad to the brink of extinction. The lawsuit filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe says the project would turn a “pristine and unique location of ecological value and spiritual significance” into an industrial sit

Since some of you know better than the leaders of Ford, GM, and VW, please contact them and explain how you "know" more than they do, because all have pledged and planned to go overwhelmingly electric by 2030.  They would appreciate your superior knowledge.
