That liburrul fake nooze global warmin' hoax

That a stupid platitude and a dumb truism. Also, I wasn't talking about the weather. I was talking about the climate. The dumb fucks who argue that climate change ain't a'happenin' cuz' it's cold outside confuse the two.

Climate refers to overall, long-term trends; weather is a short-term phenomenon. And in point of fact, if the climate is stable, the weather follows predictable, consistent patterns. However, due to climate change, the weather has NOT been consistent.

Duhhhhhhh.

Then why did this post start off by talking about temperatures?  Too many posts today, can't remember them all?

It's March. And the temperature in Vegas is predicted to reach 94 degrees. In March.

Last June, the temperature in Portland hit 116 for three days in a row. 116 degrees. In Portland.

We're in for record heat waves again this summer, and it's all getting well past the point where it's just an inconvenience. Now, that record heat is killing people. I can only imagine what Vegas will be like in July if it's 94 degrees now.

Very well stated David!

Temperatures are a part of climate; they don't constitute climate (or weather, for that matter). But they are an indicator of climate, and of climate change.

Just to be perfectly clear, a single heat wave is weather. Multiple heat waves are climate, if they aren't isolated incidents. If, as is the case now, record-setting heat waves are the norm, not the exception, then those heat waves are indicators of climate change--not merely variations in the weather.

I find it infuriating that so many people are dismissive of the dangers. I realize that a lot of the opposition to climate change mitigation comes from the fossil fuel companies and the Republicans they own, so that indifference is just self-serving corporate America at its finest.

As with just about everything that's wrong with glorious capitalist America, the poor and disadvantaged are the ones who will be hurt and killed by climate change. The rich will be, at most, mildly inconvenienced. That's why the issue is so politicized--at its heart, it's a class struggle.

Those who are old enough might remember the screaming hissy fit corporate America pitched when environmental controls were first enacted. Now, we're getting the same wailing about climate change mitigation efforts and sustainable energy. What's a few hundred thousand extra people dying, as long as shareholder value is maximized?
