Ooh, good example of back pedaling.

MisterPicture inspired me to review the meaning of conditional clauses, i.e. if x, then y.

"If it rains the wedding will take place inside."

That sneaky "if" served MisterPicture well in his non-apology apology.

So you believe that some words are "sneaky." Wow, I never heard that one before. I mean ever.

If you believe that, you are really ignorant. If you don't, you really lack integrity.

(See, I just used two more of those "sneaky" words!)

I think he wasn't hedging--or apologizing--at all. You can have all manner of noble principles and a strong moral compass but if you constantly and rabidly support a man who has none, well, do your principles have any meaning?

That's why Republicans have absolutely no moral high ground to stand on any more. They sold their souls to Trump long ago.

I think that the vast majority of those that voted for Trump are good american citizens. Those that own businesses that prospered with less regulation and taxation. Those that got good jobs in the manufacturing sector that weren't there before Trump. Those republicans that, just like democrats, vote the party ticket. Are there millions of white supremacists? Of course there are. How many of them actually vote? Probably not as many as you think. People demonizing everyone that voted for Trump are as pathetically wrong as those decrying the legitimacy of the vote in certain states. Please end the name calling on both sides.

Make no mistake about it, the Trump presidency was a casualty of covid-19. Had he not failed so miserably with the pandemic, I have no doubt that he would easily have won reelection. Hopefully, with the science finally at the forefront, enough people will adhere to masking up that we can eradicate this pandemic. It will start with responsible mandates and policies from our president.

This country is in trouble from the intractable stance of both the republicans and democrats in congress. If we don't get some common sense compromising in the house and senate, this country will never be able to heal. Something needs to be done about our healthcare system immediately. Our infrastucture needs major repairs to roads, bridges, electric grid, water supply and gas lines. Our country is falling apart due to Washington D.C. gridlock! Climate change needs to be addressed responsibly. Social security and medicare need to be permanently fixed. Immigration needs to be addressed as well. Our border needs to be secured in order to have any meaningful reform.

Instead of fearmongering and name calling, let's get together and, dare I say it, make this country great again.

Well spoken Packer.  The most reasonable post I've seen on the Kitchen Sink.  It mirrors a lot of my own sentiments.  His politicizing the wearing of masks and mishandling of the pandemic was a huge mistake for him.  The election was incredibly close, if not for poor response to Covid, he would have been reelected.

The race wasn't incredibly close. It wasn't even close. Biden will win 306 electoral votes and have the second biggest vote share in the last 32 years.

The reason the folks at fivethirtyeight.com correctly predicted Biden had a 90% chance of winning was that he had multiple paths to winning. Trump had to sweep the board.

Hear hear!!!!!

While I agree many of Trump's voters are good people...I do think Trump was a massive threat to our democracy that the overwhelming majority of his supporters were willing to overlook.

- Undermining verdicts by discrediting the courts.

- Firing those who are investigating his alleged crimes

- The AG declaring the president can not be guilty of a crime while in office by virtue of him being there

- Putting family members in charge of important post

- sabotaging the post office

- declaring the free press the enemy of the people

- seperating babies from mother as an act of purposeful cruelty to scare away refugees coming to America

- using international policy as leverage to investigate political opponents.

- profitting in a personal business with fireign and special interest money while holding office

- putting people who fail security clearances in postions that require them

Yeah - these aren't ideological problems.   These are authoritarian problems.

I can live with Conservative Justices and tax legislation I dont agree with..and trade policy I dont agree with.   Elections have consequences and the other side gets to win sometimes.   Fine.    But that list above is unprecedented and its dangerous.   I hope it serves as a wake up call for COngress who will pass laws to prevent things like that from happening again.   I dont expect Republicans would like it very much if a Democrat President engaged in them....and I would not either.

The difference between the Democrats and Republicans is that the Republicans make EVERY. SINGLE. policy decision based on the impact on their corporate donor-supporters, while the Democrats base their decisions on what would be good for the country as a whole, not just rich people. Climate change? Ignore it, because fossil fuel companies think that addressing it would hurt them. Health care? Don't do anything to ensure everyone has it, because the for-profit system only wants to insure people who rarely need it. Fix the infrastructure? Don't bother, because that would require tax increases to fund it, and the holy shibboleth is to not increase taxes except to blow money on the military and idiocies such as Da Wall. Immigration reform? Not when the prevailing ideology is "IMMERGENTS IS BAD." Social Security and Medicare? Don't fix it, because we old white guys will be dead by the time the system goes blooey.

Who are the obstructionists? The Democrats who pass meaningful reforms only to have them die in the Senate, or the Republicans in the Senate who clap for Moscow Mitch as he sits, cackling, atop a two-foot-high pile of bills that the House has sent him?

The Democrats care about people. The Republicans care about big corporations. As long as our government is roughly equally divided between the two, gridlock will persist. But maybe that's preferable to a Republican-dominated fascist plutocracy. The rich will stomp on the faces of the poor, given the opportunity. Sad but true.

People demonizing everyone that voted for Trump are as pathetically wrong as those decrying the legitimacy of the vote in certain states.

Nope, Trump is a white nationalist which is just a fancy term for white supremacist. People that vote for him knowingly chose to vote for a white supremacist. That makes them white supremacy supporters. He is also a federal felon. A Federal Judge and Federal Prosecutor named him the head of the conspiracy in the Michal Cohen case.  Again, this is something people that voted for Trump know. That means they think a felon ought to be President.  Then there is his serial sexual assault, bribery of a foreign power to interfere in an election he is running in, the dismantling of the post office to cheat in his own election, the cheating on the census to dilute the Hispanic vote and on and on. Knowing all of this, you simply cannot be a good person and vote for Trump.

And you know despite all of Trump’s promises manufacturing jobs have declined under Trump?  Also, keep in mind if you are upper-middle-class or below your taxes are going to go up because of the Trump tax cut. The rates are scheduled to go up in a few years, and this is by design. The rates go up, but you no longer have your itemized deductions to offset them.

This country is in trouble from the intractable stance of both the republicans and democrats in congress. If we don't get some common sense compromising in the house and senate, this country will never be able to heal.

I agree with you in part. The problem is there is no both sides to it. Republicans cannot compromise. Their media holds them hostage as any compromise is seen as a betrayal of conservative values.  If they compromise the conservative media turns against them. They get primaried and voted out of office.

You also have the conservative media/ Social media to blame for the rise in the belief of conspiracy theories among conservatives. Until you crackdown on Social Media, you will not solve this problem.

How do you compromise with Republicans when a significant percentage of them believe Democrats participate in a child molesting cabal run by George Soros? Is meeting them halfway saying ok we will stipulate Tom Hanks is a pedophile if you guys agree Chrissy Teigen is not?

Trump’s guy, Steve Bannon, wants to behead Facui and the FBI director. Is the commonsense compromise to agree to cut out their tongues instead?

The bottom line you can’t both sides it.   One side is suffering a mass psychosis fueled by a belief in conspiracy theories and doesn’t even believe in nor want democracy anymore.  With your false equivalency argument, you make it sound like AOC’s green new deal is akin to jailing or beheading public officials because they don’t agree with Trump.
