Bail was originally $500,000, eventually reduced to $50,000.  After an uproar, he is now out on bail.  NYC has been letting violent criminals out without bail for the last 2 years, but in this case, a man trying to defend himself was treated worse than the criminals.

A person released from court, on bail OR on his own recognizance, isn't a "violent criminal" in the eyes of the law until he's actually convicted of a violent crime. He's released because the court evaluates the likelihood that he will return to court for his trial as required.

 

Stupid Tommie-poo seems to think that bail is some kind of pre-punishment. It's not--that's not its purpose.

 

So yeah, we liberals advocate obeying the courts' decisions. Judges don't poll the public to determine if an accused individual should be required to post bail. They make that decision themselves rather than getting the permission of the community's stupid Tommie-poos.
