Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’

When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed. ...

...When McCain died, in August 2018, Trump told his senior staff, according to three sources with direct knowledge of this event, “We’re not going to support that loser’s funeral,” and he became furious, according to witnesses, when he saw flags lowered to half-staff. “What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser,” the president told aides.

According to sources with knowledge of the president’s views, he seems to genuinely not understand why Americans treat former prisoners of war with respect. Nor does he understand why pilots who are shot down in combat are honored by the military. On at least two occasions since becoming president, according to three sources with direct knowledge of his views, Trump referred to former President George H. W. Bush as a “loser” for being shot down by the Japanese as a Navy pilot in World War II.

On Memorial Day 2017, Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery, a short drive from the White House. He was accompanied on this visit by John Kelly, who was then the secretary of homeland security, and who would, a short time later, be named the White House chief of staff. The two men were set to visit Section 60, the 14-acre area of the cemetery that is the burial ground for those killed in America’s most recent wars. Kelly’s son Robert is buried in Section 60. A first lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Robert Kelly was killed in 2010 in Afghanistan. He was 29. Trump was meant, on this visit, to join John Kelly in paying respects at his son’s grave, and to comfort the families of other fallen service members. But according to sources with knowledge of this visit, Trump, while standing by Robert Kelly’s grave, turned directly to his father and said, “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?”

Conservatives are proud that they voted for Trump. And won't have anything to say about his dishonoring POWs and KIAs. In fact, they approve so much they will vote for him again even though they know exactly what they are getting.

Thats how reporting works - including the reporting on emailgate that you referenced a million times on this board.

4 different people with firsthand knowledge of the remarks confirmed the accuracy.   And its not like its a big secret - or even especially newsworthy at this point in time.    This is exactly the same disposition he publicly spewed at John McCain while running for office.

He's not the Bone Spur Coward for nothing.     And if anyone was expecting his base to hold him accountable for saying it?   Ha !   I think we know how that plays out too, dont we?    Tom just showed us.

And who are those people?

Without names this story means nothing.

If it is anti-Trump story the TDS crowd eats it up

Yet President Trump is largely supported by active and retired military personnel.  I suspect that they know more than Mark about how Trump treats the military.

Nice how that works out from Tom's perspective isn;t it?

Disparaging remarks about Trump from 4 first hand, annonymous sources means nothing.

And disparaging remarks about Trump from first hand named sources like:  Mary Trump, Michael Cohen, John Kelly, James Comey,  James Mattis, Rex Tillerson, Don McGahn, Stormy Daniels, Omarosa, and John Kirikaou...those mean nothing too.

Thats ok.    The goal was never to convince Tom of anything.   Good luck with the media-boogeyman argument in November

Yes, Tom doesn't know how journalism works. Journalists check their sources by confirming that the source was in a position to know what they are claiming is true. And this isn't one unamed source it is 4.  Kelly won't comment on Trump's words to him.  If they were untrue, he would have just said so.

Plus, all the known facts add up.  His cancellation of the WWl cemetery visit where he claimed the weather was too bad to fly. That was already proven untrue years ago. Plus, he could have take his motorcade he didn't even need to fly.

Then there was his public comment that he didn't like POWs. Not to forget his own falsification of bone spurs to avoid service.  Cohen already said a year or more ago that Trump told him he dodged the draft because he wasn't going to be a sucker.  Mary Trump's book says Trump threatened one of his kids that he would be disowned if he joined the military.

Mary Trump said he got someone to take his SAT. Turned out the person she named didn't meet trump until later.

The times, post & Atlantic have had to post numerous retractions & other stories die on the vine (last weeks mini stroke for example)

So the sources claim bb these outlets is suspicious without them naming names.

Tom, Fox News has now confirmed the story with their own sources. Can we get you on the record with your continued support for a guy that thinks KIAs and POWs are suckers and losers?
