A Vegas related post for once: The mayor is seriously wacked.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who is the mayor of Las Vegas but NOT the mayor of the Clark County controlled Vegas Strip, wants the Strip casinos to open and be a control group "to see how many people die without social distancing."

When she was asked if she would spend time on the casino floors, first she answered, "first of all, I have a family." She also says she doesn't gamble. She added, "we'll find out if it's bad after."

Obviously she's been taking the hydroxyclorquine prescribed by Dr. Trump.

Um-Huh !

And the sportsbooks could offer an over/under on how many people die too ! ! !

Well, that ties right into the Republican narrative that business profits are worth the sacrifice of people's lives.

That's been the same story for a century. Vegas itself has always been all about sucking the life as well as the cash out of people. I hope the "gaming" industry completely collapses.

Now hold on there, that's blasphemy.

Well you're a breath of springtime, aren't you?

I've visited, worked, and lived a combined half-century or so in Las Vegas, and it still hasn't sucked the life out of me. I kind of enjoy it. Every out of town visitor I've hosted has enjoyed it. Maybe the problem for you isn't Las Vegas.

Why in the hell are you even on a website that IS about Vegas? Sorry but your life is pretty immaterial in the scheme as is mine!

you can not cause 10’s of thousands to suffer over this. If you want to remain in your rabbit hole do so! But crashing an economy of billion of dollars just can not continue.

Vegas would not be a good selection to experiment with reopening the country.  If the virus is still out there, wouldn't people carry it back to their home state?  Georgia is a much better choice.  They've already volunteered.  If things don't go well, containment would be easier.  We could quarantine the whole state.

If you've been visiting Vegas for fifty years, then you understand the contrast between what it used to be and what it is now.

The loss of casino gambling would add to the national economy, as it produces nothing and just sucks cash.

I have seen Vegas change from a fun, affordable vacation destination to a cynical ripoff.

Vegas does not produce wealth. Every dollar that winds up in Vegas coffers is subtracted from somebody's wallet. The apparatus set up to do that has no redeeming social value.

I think that after all this is over, we might be seriously reevaluating many of our social institutions, including the existence of a city that does nothing but take money from people and gives them nothing but illusions in return.
