What is it like to be Black in this country?

Sure, you don't.

I will take a shot at Kevin's original question.  Nobody may agree.  That's OK.  JMHO.

The culture of White supremacy, i.e. white privilege, breeds feelings of marginalization.  A different walk for blacks.  This culture goes back way farther than most of us learned about in school.   It didn't originate in America, neither did slavery, but both were nurtured to continue generating wealth.   Abolishment of slavery was not a popular concept among the leaders and "framers" to say the least.  Read about Dred Scott vs Sanford, 1857.  Multiple decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court held that the rights and privileges of citizenship in the Constitution did not apply to blacks, enslaved or free, that they were not considered persons for purposes of citizenship.

That culture still shows up in everyday life, unfortuately.  Celebrations and holidays, statues and memorials honor the very people who back in history nurtured enslavement and denied the rights of citizenship to blacks.  I do expect blacks as well as whites to salute our country's flag and acknowledge the privileges confered under it, obey the laws, etc.  But I get it when they don't, because I know that in many ways some don't feel it, and some have been treated in direct opposition to common decency, not so very long ago.

Multigenerational criminalization of blacks (note the events of late with fatal outcomes) is dehumanizing at best.   Hurtful and unforgettable at worst.

White privilege is real.  The wealthiest of black Americans--entertainers, athletes, politicians, professionals--they know it just as much as does the low income black man kept in jail longer when he can't pay the fine for loitering.

JMHO.

Kevin Lewis opines: "We won't solve the problem of racial injustice in this country until we get rid of the Boilers of this world."

Perhaps Kevin Lewis could establish a system of "reeducation camps" first.  History suggests that once those are established "getting rid" of such undesireables is but a small step.

They will get rid of themselves, actually. They smoke.

Candy, you know damn well it's against the rules of the forum to actually answer the OP's original question.

Nonetheless, your observation is spot-on. Racism is deeply, deeply embedded in our society. One of our Trumpers showed that when he referred to Floyd as "a black crook." This might seem relatively innocuous, but that appelation means that our Trumper saw him as a Black person first and a human being second. Did it matter whether he was Black or not? Obviously! SHOULD it have? No! But does anyone deny he would still be alive today if he was White?

I really, really object to the way the focus has shifted from the legitimate grievances of the Black community and the protestors to the random acts of violence, many of which have been committed by White people (and many of whom were paid to do so!). But this is purposeful. The White folks in power--and our Trumper scum on this board--want to keep us focused on the message: "Them darkies is violent and dangerous!" That way, no one has to pay attention to the 400 years of systematic racial injustice that is an inescapable part of the social fabric of this poor country.

Oh, well. Now back to the irrelevant screaming about whatever it was this thread devolved to.

Those were alt-right white boys...and they didn't actually manage to join the protests. The white supremacists arrested for arson and looting in Minneapolis weren't charged with terrorism, but they should have been.

They're all coming out of the woodwork.

Yep. Funny how white boys need a hammer, a skateboard, backpacks full of spray paint and ski goggles, respirators and body armor to protest.
