Yet another reason to ditch fossil fuels

It is impossible to have an intelligent discussion with a psychopath, which you are. I state facts, you state twisted lies. All you do is pontificate, complain, besmurch, lie, cajole, and demean. You are so fucked up in the head that trying to have a sane, intelligent discussion with you is pointless.

Nice little speechie, Davey Dog! Weaseling away from your inability to have a sane discussion with anyone else.

Funny, you talking about an "inability to have a sane discussion".

Weasel. Pitiful and weak.

What you thought about those mythical "Libs" was wrong, as you've been so often in the past. Being against mining that causes environmental damage isn't the same thing as being against mining. The truth is that EVERY extractive industry in the US can operate while causing much less environmental damage than it does now. That includes the mining industry.

Where are we going to get lithium? We'll mine it where we can, and trade for it as well. Lithium is a mineral, and minerals come from the ground. Mining is when you dig stuff out of the ground. I thought you were a heavy industry expert. Why don't you know where minerals come from?

As with pretty much everything else in glorious capitalist America, we'll switch to sustainable energy as and when it becomes the cheaper alternative. That's happening already. That's not what I was talking about, though. We have a very strong political motive to do that as well. We've had half a century of dictators beating us over the head with their oil supplies. Isn't it time we ended that once and for all?

How long does Kevin think it's going to take to increase battery production 20X?  And Kevin, I was quite clear in my previous post that I understand that lithium and nickel are mined.  Another disingenuous comment coming from Kevin.

Also, wind and power can't be used widespread across the US as a majority of our power until very efficient batteries are developed to make this move economical.  Next, Kevin's going to give us an example of a small country which is mostly wind and solar...................he's done this before.  What he didn't tell us (because he didn't know it), is that tiny country imports lots of electricity from nearby countries when the wind stops-a-blowin', and the Sun stops-a-shinin'.  We don't need to look to Europe for such an example, but only to California.

EU has been agressively moving to renewables - much more so than the United States - mainly because they are fully dependant upon importing their fossil fuels from other countries.    Its in their interest to become energy independant as much as any nation.   They dont have the option of mining fuel - so they are chasing renewables.   Good for them.

In the meantime the United States has signed LNG contracts to replace the natural gas Europe is currently getting from Russia.    It will likely be a volatile road for the next few years while the supply gets rerouted.

Also - Joe Biden is expected to sign bills this month which will open domestic mining for base minerals related to battery and microchip manufacturing in the United States.    Those things are now viewed as a matter of national security (much like oil).

Germany has the highest electrical costs in Europe as it moves from nuclear to wind.  In 2021 due to a lack of wind, the amount of electricity from wind declined.

TK complains about depending on dictators for energy, but wants the US to buy lithium batteries from China (the major source of the quality lithium needed for batteries).  Lithium mining such as at Thacker Pass have been stalled by liberals, the very group that wants electrical vehicles

Let's take a common sense approach and use both fossil fuels and clean renewable energy sources.  A binary choice of all or nothing gets us nowhere.  I'm speaking to both sides.

Whatever substance your argument has--which is pretty small--it ignores the fact that changes can be, and are being made. Battery production is ramping up dramatically. And please don't pretend you're so ignorant as to think that lithium batteries are the only way to store electrical energy!

I'll give you one simple example. Use electricity generated but not immediately used to pump water uphill to a storage area, such as behind a dam. Then release it to drive turbines as needed. That method could use existing infrastructure and wouldn't require any hard-to-obtain materials.

Also, batteries can be made out of materials other than lithium. It's the future, Boiler, and you can't stop it (and why would you want to, other than your slavish fossil fuel loyalty?). AMURRICA can be pretty ingenious when it needs to be.

You remind me of the folks who said that that newfangled horseless carriage would never catch on. Or the ones who said that the internet was just a fad.
