10,000 dollars found and return, what would you do

A person found $10,000 on his or her way to Vegas and returned the money, what would you do? Return it or keep it?
I figure it this way: I don't want what isn't rightfully mine, and I don't want anyone else to take/keep what is rightfully mine. I'd give it back or try to.

$20 on a sidewalk is a different story, unless I saw someone drop it. I was behind a guy at the grocery store who was oblivious to the fact that he had dropped a $100 bill on the floor. I told him about it, got a lukewarm thank you, but I felt good knowing I'd done the right thing.

In a heartbeat....I'd return it. I believe in Karma.

I returned a $100 black chip that fell out of a guys pocket at a blackjack table thinking the good karma might change my luck for that trip.........it didnt

The guy that dropped it did buy me a drink as a reward.

If the truth be told, I really wanted to run to a roulete table put it on black, and if I won, "then" I would return the original $100 and keep the winnings (me and karma's little secret), I would probably go thru the same train of thought if it was $100 or $10,000

No brainer. In Nevada, as pretty much everywhere I know, when you find lost property and can't locate the owner, you cannot keep it for yourself. You have to report it to the government. If the government also can't find the owner, it becomes the government's property.

Uncle Sam's revenue agents will want their cut should you fail to report.

I found a guy's wallet once when I parked my car in a croweded parking lot at KCC, a community college in Hawaii (which I attended). When I opened my car door the wallet was at my feet. In the wallet was about $200 in cash and the guy's ID, credit cards, and paystub (Home Depot). I called the manager at Home Depot to nofity the guy about it. Later that same night the guy called me and came to pick up his wallet with everything intact. He offered to give me $50 as a reward but I didn't take it.
All of these socialist replies! Are none among you capitalists?

If I could identify the person or company that lost the money, I'd return it.

If it was just $1000 cash laying on the street, I'd keep it.

I found a green chip on the floor in The Orleans. Picked it up. Waited there about 20 minutes. No one came over. I cashed it in.

The government will just waste it anyways.
IF I found a large sum of money, there is little question in my mind what I would do.

Nor should there be.

In some jurisdictions, if you find lost property (i.e. money for purposes of this thread) and cannot readily locate the rightful owner, you are supposed to turn it over to the police department having jurisdiction over where the lost property was found.

If the rightful owner does not claim it within a specified time period (it varies, but is usually 3-6 months), it's yours.

What I myself would do, I honestly don't know, but I hope to be presented with such a dillema someday, lol!
