Airfare Sky-High!!

Trying to book a flight from Newark NJ to either Las Vegas, Boise, Reno or Salt Lake City or even Sacramento and the fares are out of sight.

Anyone have any inside information if they will be coming down?
I just check daily, and put in fare watch posts in the sites. Orbitz and I think travelocity will notify you when fares drop to the level you put into them. I check kayak.com also, as they check most airlines, but not all. I usually get the best deal on Southwest, but they have all been high lately, and when it dropped low enough, I grabbed it.

Off to Vegas on Tuesday!!!!!!!
I am going from Philly to Vegas in August, the first class fares have gone up from $783 to $957.
OUCH!!!!!

Supposedly, 7 weeks from your travel date is the best & cheapest time to book.

Go midweek and come back midweek for the lowest fares.
The reality is that the governing party is counterfeiting money ("quantitative easing" they call it) to the tune of over $100 billion a month for the last 4+ years which makes our dollars cheaper by the day and thus everything we buy more expensive by the day.
As long as this counterfeiting continues prices are going to keep rising.

Tuesday afternoons are when the latest deals are offered online (if there are any). And yes traveling on weekdays is usually cheaper. A Thurs-Sunday round trip will most often cost more than a Sun-Wed trip, just as it is with hotels.

I'm doing a t Tuesday-Sunday Vegas trip next week on Southwest. I booked awhile ago, definitely higher than I've paid in the past.
Coming to Vegas in one week from Toronto - got lucky with a seat sale in late

December & paid just under $500.00. Regular price is well over $600.00.

I don't think airfares will be coming down anytime soon. The airlines know they have us right where they want us. Airlines have cut routes and flights. Many flights are full. Airline mergers have made for less competition. Airlines know we have to fly. This is the sweet spot for airlines. They have no need to lower prices. That's why if you see a sale price that you like, you better book it. You might not see that low price again.

I don't think anybody know when it is the "best time" to book a flight. You have to check prices everyday, two or three times a day. Then, book a low price if you see one. I doubt that anybody can prove that 7 weeks out means anything. You might get lucky and you might not.

Put a bid in at Priceline.com. You just never know what bid they'll accept!
Sadly high airfares are here to stay. Flights are full and the airlines are still not making much money
