Airline Fees

DonDiego provides a printable link to the Ultimate Guide to Airline Fees

Psst, . . . Southwest looks like a bargain.
As long as people are foolish and stupid enough to pay these "fees" the airlines will keep charging them. I personally only fly Southwest.
I'm driving next time. I won't save much by not flying but I make it up when I get there and don't need a rental car. And, as an added bonus, the TSA workers don't get to look at me or my 15 year old daughter naked.
pay a fee to get there... then come the hotel/resort fees.

ugh

I fly the cheapest/best flights I can find. It's rarely with SW but it's always a better flight when it is. I've been upgrading to business class for international work flights and it's an extra $6000 so I'm conditioned to accept a couple extra bucks on personal flights.
Spirit Airlines charges fees for everything...and its not a game in their case. They offer dirt cheap fares with ala-cart fees for everything else. If you are a light, low-maintenance traveler you can save a ton of money by flying with them.

And most airlines will waive many of their fees for people who hold their respective credit card.

Like with anything else, it pays to be an informed consumer.
I read somewhere that aircraft boarding times are much longer than they used to be. I wonder why? With baggage fees, many more people are now carrying stowaway bags on board. They take much longer to put them in the overhead or to try and find a place in the overhead.

Flying is almost like going through a difficult obstacle course any more. I generally fly business or first class if the flight is going to be over two hours. You save much of the hassle and you arrive much more refreshed.
Thinking real hard about taking a Greyhound bus for my next trip. $220 for a round trip ticket from St. Louis even though it's almost a 32 hour one way trip. Even without the fees that Southwest doesn't charge, it would be almost $500 for a round trip ticket with them. I've always thought about doing this, and now that I'm not able to work... why not.

That's a long time in a bus.
I may be strange, but I so prefer to go greyhound. Flying has become so unpleasant in recent times that I dread the thought of going to the airport. Bus travel is, for me at least, hassle free. I enjoy it, to be honest. Its cheaper, but that's not why I do it. Once, a few years ago, I went from West Palm Beach to Alberquerque on Greyhound. [I admit that I flew back] Call me weird, but I'll take a bus over a plane any day.
