Airline Fees

I don't think there's any way I could handle a bus ride for a day+ timewise. I did a greyhound from DC to clarksburgh WVa once, which was a 5 hr car ride at that time, and it took something like 16 hrs. I was never so happy to get out of a vehicle in my life. 30 or more hours? Seriously, they might find me hung in the toilet by the end of that trip. Put me on a train however...I think I could do that. Some dinner and a few drinks in the bar car after, retire in your cabin and sleep away the night..yep.
If I had to do that trip in a bus, I think I may just purchase an airline ticket to return, cause I certainly would not get on the bus for the return trip.

I had friends take trains from the east coast to Vegas once = when they got there finally, they bought a cheap car to drive back because there was no way they were ever going to do that again!!!

You really have to check out the schedules when you take the bus. One trip might be a six hour trip because it's a direct route. The same trip might be ten hours because it stops in every little town the entire trip. Like I said, I'm just thinking about it since I'm not working and have nothing but time on my hands. I might do the bus thing out and the plane back. Still a lot time before I have to decide what I want to do.

I'm driving next time. I won't save much by not flying but I make it up when I get there and don't need a rental car. And, as an added bonus, the TSA workers don't get to look at me or my 15 year old daughter naked.

I remember you saying once you live in the Seattle area, I live in Edmonds and we have been flying on Allegiant out of Bellingham. Usually save $100- 170 on airfare. The only bad thing is they nickel and dime you for everything, but with the overall cost savings and the hour+ drive its worth it IMHO. We've been averaging $170 something roundtrip after bag fees and taxes. Getting in and out of the B'ham airport is quick as it is very small.
