See it isn't just me and a few crackpots saying it.

... the report estimates that a silver plan would have a deductible ranging from $1,500 to $5,000, which is higher than the average deductible ($1,135) for an employer-sponsored plan.

Furthermore, there is a risk that patients could forgo needed care when faced with high upfront deductibles.”
What good is insurance if you can't afford to use it?

oh my

The study also suggests exchange enrollees could see higher drug co-pays and co-insurance than those in employer-sponsored plans.
In related news, the seats of a Chevy Malibu are still less cushy than those of a Cadillac CTS.

But the Malibu will still get you where you're going far quicker than just walking along the side of the road.
But people aren't required to buy a new Malibu in 2014 or face a penalty

True, but they are required to pay local, state, and federal taxes into the single payer model we use to buy everyone roads and public transit, whether they want them or not.

Just because we fund roads doesn't mean we have to buy a car or automotive insurance we can always choose not to use them.

Anyway the Obama care mandate isn't a mandate to buy into the healthcare system it is a mandate to buy into the insurance company. Your money isn't going towards a public good it is going into stuff like mansions for Insurance company CEOs.

Correct, no one has to buy a car or auto insurance.

But everyone has to pay their share for roads and public transit, whether they want to or not. It's a mandate to every individual, and there's room in jail for those who refuse.
If you want to make that comparison it would be like the government saying ok Chilcoot we need a new road from point A to point B get out your wallet hire a contractor from our approved list of for profit contractors and hire them to build the road and btw you're going to have to pave the last 5,000 feet yourself and the terms aren't negotiable.

Oh and soon everyone will be on Chevy Malibu plan even on the employer side. Cadillac plans will be a thing of the past.

Correct, that's one of many reasons why so many of us join you in finding the compromise plan that President Obama signed is not ideal.

I don't know if you live near paved roads, but I doubt you were given a menu of options to select the road that'd best fit your family's needs, like you'll get if you buy health insurance through one of the new exchanges.

Well, you're free to buy all the supplementary health insurance you want. The plans offered through the exchanges are floors, not ceilings.

And remember, employers are free to pass to their employees the savings they'll get from not buying such expensive Cadillac plans.

I appreciate you acknowledging the shortcomings, but I have to ask who was he compromising with there weren't any Republicans on board? The root cause of the problem is Obama invited the Hospital Holding Companies, the Pharmaceutical Companies and the insurance Companies to the negotiation and said guess what guys we are going to guarantee that you will make even more profits in our new system. When you start the negotiation with that you aren't going to end up with a finished product that is very good for the consumer.

And the thing is because of how it is structured these shortfalls aren't things that can be patched or fixed down the road. Like I said in the other thread the "trick" behind Obamacare is getting people to accept more out of pocket costs and higher co-pays. This hasn't dawned on most folks and once they realize how badly they are getting screwed it will be too late to do anything about it. The insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals are laughing all the way to the bank.
malibber, good news! I've come across some Indiana based rates, and an Indianapolis family of four with an income of $50,000, for the Bronze program will pay:

$11.00 per month for ObamaCare.

And obviously, that's regardless of the pre-existing conditions of any of the four family members. For silver, it would be $282 for someone making $50k, and $1,011 for a family with income greater than 400% of the poverty level. And everyone is free to buy their own insurance outside the marketplace if they choose.

And between co-pays and out-of-pocket rules, bronze covers about 60% of costs on an actuarial basis, silver is 70%. And if the insurance company turns out to pay less than anticipated in benefits, they will send you a rebate check. Over 8 million people received them this year.
