Baby boomer retirement goals...

I have this long term care insurance thru Genworth. Had it for 3 years now. Some might say it's not needed until about age 55 or even 60's but it gives me peace of mind. And I can comfortably afford it.

I don't know if you have looked or not but assisted living facilities can run a pretty penny. There are places here in Ohio that will run anywhere between $4,000 to $9,000 a month and they DON'T take Social Security.

WHOA!!!
Here is the answer I was looking for:

In addition to a tax advisor one should get a retirement advisor.
Too late for me but the people that PLAN for their retirement should heed this wise person's advice.
Hats off to you for the best advice of the entire thread.
Seems like 2014 is a big year for retirements on this board. I go out in 5 more weeks. Been working here for 34 years. Took less money for the job because of the good pension plan. Had originally planned on another year or two but health concerns have pushed the issue to where it is not worth it. Been working 1-2 jobs since I was 15. Everyone thinks I am going to go crazy. Maybe I will, we shall see. Just want to see what it will be like.

One can still use a retirement advisor even after a retirement; an advisor will be able to tell somebody the best way to manage one's income & assets

I'll never be able to retire.

Is it because of resort fees?
Some other things I'm doing to prepare for retirement, BTW I'm GenX and missed the Babyboomer classification by 2 years;
-minimizing debt (no credit card debt, no school loans, no car loan)
-downsizing where ever possible (disconnected $40 a month landline phone and ported the number over to Magic Jack for $3 a month)
-selling crap on Craigslist, eBay, etc.
-home cooking as much as possible rather than buying out
-fixing things rather than paying others or buying new items
-created a will & revocable living trust
-haven't stepped into a casino since February (I know this won't sit well with many of you here, Lol)

PLUS ONE for Magic Jack!(Plus)
I sell stuff on E Bay a lot.
No credit card debt(Unsecured).
No car payments.
Buy clothes at the "Dead Peoples" store ie Value Village.
I'll walk instead of drive to the store w/ back pack. The bus is $2.50 in Seattle w/ free wi fi at bus stops.
I don't drink beer in Pubs. Sam's Club has great prices.
I grow my own salad fixens'.
Still do my own oil changes.

Don't shoot me but the only change in my wife and my lifestyle since retirement at age 55 two years ago is we cruise more and fish more.

They let you fish off the cruise ship? That's pretty cool. Carnival?
