Blue screen of death

I have an HP Pavilion also. There should be a recovery partition that you can access by pressing F11 during boot up. More information can be found here HP Recovery

I believe it gives you a couple of options. If you have a windows installation disk I think one of the options is to take you back to last know working configuration.

I know you don't want to here it now but I have spent many hour trying to recover several computers through the years and the best investment I have made is a Western Digital passport and Acronis True Image. They have saved my butt more than once.
Thx for the suggestions all. Well I finally got it to go back in time, I had to disable avast(what a PITA that was) and do it in safe mode to boot. So far so good.

BTW, Snidely, what porn sites would you recommend to be computer friendly and where should I move my tower?

And just throw away all those years of "hard" work, never!
Yes the most likely cause is that your operating system has become corrupt possibly from bad porn sites. The most likely fix is to do a fresh install of Windows 7 and choosing to wipe out all other files. I would go one step further and install Windows 8 instead, that is if your computer is compatible.

I was having regular problems with the "Blue Screen Of Death." I ran Diagnostics and ended up needing a new Motherboard. Fortunately this was covered by Warranty. Have you run any diagnostics? If running Windows look in "Control Panel" for the "Action Center" and then "Maintenance." There is a "Troubleshooting" option there. That should help determine what's going on. NOTE: This was just my experience. As others have mentioned Malware could be causing your problems as well.

If you're not comfortable messing with your system see if the vendor has a Service Department or take it to a local PC Technician. Just my two cents but a lot of hardware failure issues get blamed on viruses, malware, etc.
Okay, I have one small question.

Why do porn sites want to f*ck (pardon the pun) with your computer and give it a virus? I have no doubt that they do it. Is this a different kind of phishing?
I've found out one thing since I just got a new PC, and that is NEVER agree to install any of those PC scanners. They usually sneak them in when trying to install a legit program like Flash Player. Do NOT accept allowing them to enter your PC.

I play a lot of Zinga games and when I first got the PC, they played like lightning. This past weekend they slowed down considerably and I didn't know why. I kept on getting a message to download a "player" download. Thinking this was from Adobe lFash Player I tried to download it but it never seemed to download properly. Finally, yesterday I got so pissed at these messages and PC Scan trying to scan my PC, that I went to the "Uninstall' program and started uninstalling all these BS scanning sites. Where these scanning sites decided that I had 256 threats to my PC, I ran my trial offer of Norton anti virus which showed no threats. After I uninstalled both scanning programs, my PC was back to normal.

Last time I had a blue screen, I had to take it to an IT guy and it cost $200 to fix getting rid of the virus. I like the adaware program which is offered free from Lavasoft.com. Once before when I had a virus, I tried running the Adaware plus two other virus/trojan programs, and this virus was so smart, it wouldn't let it finish the scan. But persistence paid off by running all three of the anti virus programs. Each time I ran the scan the virus got weaker and weaker until it finally cleared up all the problems. And make sure no matter what program that you download that you don't allow them to install Yahoo or Google tool bars unless you want those programs.
I run Acronis True Image. If I have a computer problem, I just run Acronis and it installs a problem free backup. It has saved me many times.
The problem could be the loose nut behind the keyboard.

Sorry, for the IT humor.
Still so far,so good. No issues(knock on wood) since taking it back in time.
