Bye, Bye Tourists!

SD is by far one of the more over-hyped "destinations" out there. As for holiday traffic or traffic in general, it's So Cal. Try getting back from/through the Coachella Valley on Labor Day Monday or Thanksgiving Sunday. Same same. Or the 101. Or Vegas on any Sunday.

It's a nonstarter.
I'm with you Bags. Went surfing at San Onofre (Old Man's) this morning and it was like a big relaxing sigh..... The crowds are gone and us geezers have our beach back....at least on weekday mornings.
Fricking tourists. Driving the economy.

Exactly!

In San Diego they have LeggoLand and Seaworld. Or for sportsfans they have Petco Park (Padres) or Qualcom Park (Chargers). As the former Governator would say, "Go Chargers Go!" San Diego has some of the nicest beaches as well in Oceanside, and Trestles. I've never been there though. Also, Tijuana is just a short drive over the Mexican border if you're into Latina working girls, Cuban cigars, or Viagra w/out a prescription (I've been told). I'm guessing there is also a significant military presence with Camp Pendleton nearby as well.

Edited to add: I forgot about the different Indian casinos;
1) Valley View
2) Harrah's Rincon
3) Pala casino
4) Pechanga casino
5) Pauma casino
6) Barona
7) Viejas casino
8) Did I overlook any casinos Bags?
I thought San Diego was touristy all year round. If it makes you feel any better I prefer the Bay Area for vacation.
be forewarned . . . people bring their kids to San Diego

Well, I beg to differ on this one. San Diego has one of the most stable climates. The streets are clean and the ocean air is wonderful. I love traveling to San Diego.
Can they smoke, Lisa?

Microbreweries. SD County has emerged as the craft beer center of California.

No need to beg. We're just not in agreement. SD's cool. It's just not on the top of my list. Santa Barbara has better weather and beaches, better vibe. Monterey has the spectacular coastline. SD is a lower-tier golf destination, which as you know is important to me. The sports tradition might have some tenure but it doesn't engender a lot of passion outside town, and it's real hard to get excited about SDSU. Old Town, revitalized downtown and Balboa Park are fun. Casinos? Give me Vegas. Brews? Winner winner. Like the flower fields. And let's not forget all the neo-Nazis who make north county look a lot like Idaho!
