They were probably not even aware of this issue

Kind of like one Robert Byrd and West Virginia....That state got LOADS of cash and kept re-electing that idiot until the day he died.

There's a few very prosperous parts of W Va thanks to Robert Byrd. I know a few people who were involved in the new FBI complex, TONS of cash poured into north central. Add on to that the discovery of the marcellus formation there's somewhat of a boom going on as well.

Yep, West Virginia is almost as bad as Alaska. But here's a more complete picture; the states tinted blue are the "makers" and the states tinted red are the "takers."

Liberals argue for more money for poor folks, then complain when it happens. There are plenty of "takers" in our poor states and everyone understands that these folks vote Democrat.

I believe that each person, each state, and each country should stand on her own. Liberals disagree, and they demand that others pay the bills.

Top Ten (Source: Tax Foundation)[Note i.]:

1. New Mexico - Indian reservations, military bases, federal research labs, farm subsidies, retirement programs

2. Mississippi - Farm subsidies, military spending, nutrition and anti-poverty aid, retirement programs.

3. Alaska - Infrastructure projects, DOT and "pork projects".

4. Louisiana - Disaster relief, farm subsidies, anti-poverty and nutrition aid, military spending.

5. W. Virginia - Farm subsidies, anti-poverty and nutrition aid.

6. N. Dakota - Farm subsidies, energy subsidies, retirement and anti-poverty programs, Indian reservations.

7. Alabama - Retirement programs, anti-poverty and nutrition aid, federal space/military spending, farm subsidies.

8. S. Dakota - Retirement programs, nutrition aid, farm subsidies, military spending, Indian reservations.

9. Virginia - Civil service pensions, military spending, veterans benefits, retirement, anti-poverty aid.

10. Kentucky - Retirement programs, nutritional and anti-poverty aid, farm subsidies.

DonDiego is in favor of cutting many Government programs. to even things out with the "Maker States" it looks like the cuts should start with farm Subsidies, Retirement Programs, and Anti-Poverty and Nutrition Aid.

Note i. As the States cited don't match those of the map, the stated expenditures are likely from a different year. Pr'bly a year including Hurricane Katrina relief. But with slight yearly variations, these States and more to the point these Federal expenditures account for most of the Federal spending in the "Taker States".

OK, then ! DonDiego is in favor of cutting many Government programs. To even things out with the "Maker States" it looks like the cuts should start with Farm Subsidies, Retirement Programs, and Anti-Poverty and Nutrition Aid, . . . oh, and those pesky Indian Reservations too.

After further review, I'm confused by Forkie's color coded map. Maybe someone will explain it to me.

Maybe someone will explain it to Boilerman. And it is DonDiego ! ! !

It turns out that forkushV misrepresented the map. It is not a map of "Makers" vs. "Takers". And the "Blue States" are not "Makers" and the "Red States" are not "Takers.

In fact, what the map is is the Electoral Map for the 2008 Presidential Election. The Red States' electoral votes went to Senator McCain and the Blue States' electoral votes went to The Obama.

__As indicated (poorly) on the map, the darker shaded States are the 10 States with the highest ratio of Federal Government Spending to Federal Tax Collected. [This also correlates more closely with the list which DonDiego posted at 9:15pm on 27 September above.] The highest ratio, i.e. biggest "Taker" is actually represented by a Blue State - New Mexico.
__However, the lighter shaded States do not appear to represent the 10 lowest ratio States; f'rinstance, Georgia and Texas have a lower-ration than lightly-shaded Ohio and Pennsylvania. Yet no Red States are lightly shaded.
__There are 3 shades of blue and only 2 shades of red. So DonDiego isn't sure what the map really represents.
[This is why DonDiego includes a reference in similar posts. He intentionally did not include a reference to his earlier post because forkushV had not included one, . . . and DonDiego did not wish to embarrass him.]

*** EDITED TO ADD ***
Here is a map representing what forkushV said his map represented. The data is from 2010, the latest poor old DonDiego could find.

Yeah, I left out a word - please see correction above.
After reviewing Forkie's map, I realized that it wasn't as he stated. Thanks for clearing this up......I feel much better now.
