college BBall talk

Have not really watched college BB till tournament time in the past years, what I observe now tells me why.

5 timeouts per half per team
on top of the commercial timeouts
persistent fouling if you should get behind inside of 4 minutes
in this tourney, really inconsistent officiating. Call it tight or call it loose just be consistent.

All the above have stretched games out to almost 3 hours. For 40 minutes of play? WTF

This is one of the best sporting tourneys/events that we have and the TV money is raining down and just ruining the game.

Really if a game is on TV and you get the additional Timeouts for this they could cut the teams down to 3 each half.

As I watch commercial after commercial in the last 4-5 minutes of a game it really makes it difficult to spend ones time watching.

I have gone to recording football and fast forwarding through all the BS. Maybe that is the simple solution.
Just disgusted what the game has become.
Back in the old days (prior to ESPN) the Garden used to schedule college BB doubleheaders. The game times were 7 & 9pm and the teams for the second game had enough time fo a 15 minute warmup & the 9pm started on time.

There are now tv time outs every 4 minutes for each half. For example there is a tv timeout at the first stoppage inside 16 minutes. The treams still get their alloted time outs. So the games go on and on

Wichita St did not call a single timeout in the tourney until the second half yesterday.
And everyone is making money except the kids that are actually playing the games.
Kind of strange here in North Carolina as it's the first time since the 70's(?) since the statehasn't had a team in the sweet 16.

Ouch!

Blade's bracket: double Ouch!

the talent pool for the "smaller schools" seems to be getting bigger and bigger! I find it nice that a Dayton, Mercer, and North Dakota State can advance a game or two in the brackets.

Sorry Blade, but I have seen enough of the North Carolina, Duke, Kansas in the final 16. Now if we can get rid of Louisville, Kentucky, Florida and U Conn. I will be happy!

Game have NO FLOW because of the timeouts, teams and TV take!

They get a scholarship, room, board, medical & tutoring; worth about $50k per year
"the talent pool for the "smaller schools" seems to be getting bigger and bigger!".

The majors are all dependent on the freshman one and done players. One of Duke;s recruits for next year was declared academically ineligible & his high school team had to forfeit all their games but is somehow able to get into Duke one of the top schools in the country.

Their inexperience and maturity get exposed by the mid majors who tend to have more senior players.

HBO is running a special (I think tonight) on the college hoop and football scam
I'm not a college basketball fan. But at least you do get 40+ minutes of players actually competing.

In the NFL, it's about 6 minutes of action spread over 3+ hours, with just over one hour of commercials, not counting all the "Visa Halftime" and similar gimmicks that appear during the broadcast. And viewers can't seem to get enough.

RD, I was shocked that Dayton actually won those 2 games. I figured if they could stay within 10 on the OSU game it would be a great showing. A win against Syracuse was not even in the cards. They should get stomped on thursday, but who knows this year.
