Perhaps you can point me to the part of the column where it says that Dancer left his wife. I can't seem to find it.

I know you're Dancer fluffer but he wrote in the first paragraph. Sorry if ALII's paraphrase was too blunt for your hero.

Shirley and I are no longer married. We divorced five months ago, due primarily to her health. She has severe COPD (a lung disorder) and couldn't be around anyone who had contact with first- or second-hand smoke. While I'm not a smoker, I spend a lot of time in casinos and even showering immediately after I came home wasn't good enough. According to Shirley, my pores reeked of cigarette smoke. To stay with her, I would have needed to give up casinos entirely and move away from Las Vegas. Given my vocation, I found this to be a difficult dilemma. Even though I was extremely reluctant to do this, with all factors considered, it seemed best for both of us that we go our separate ways.
Sorry, still can't find it.

I'm sure you don't mean to claim that "it seemed best for both of us that we go our separate ways" equals "I left my wife," because I don't want to think of you as being that dishonest. So please clarify. Thanks!

It is you who is being dense dishonest but we know you have a thing for Dancer.

I guess he forgot about the words till death do you apart when he got married.

It's now til death do us part or the wife gets sick.Whichever comes first.

"We had to go our separate ways" BECAUSE SHE IS SICK and HE can't fathom a life without Casinos and Dancing. He's a scumbag...Is that clear enough for you?
Except that you just left off the "it seemed best for both of us" part. So you edited out the part that described it as a mutual decision.

So yeah, alanleroy, with your selective editing, Dancer "left his wife." But without your edits, not so much.

Oh....I get it. It was mutual. They both thought it would be best for Dancer to continue business as usual in the Casinos and Dancing rather than care for his ill wife. Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?

So you're saying that Dancer told the god's honest truth in parts of his column, lied in other parts, and YOU somehow know which is which.

In other words, either you're omniscient or delusional. Guess which one I'm betting on.

I feel really sad about his post. When I first read it, my brain went, "what, he can't change his job for his ill wife?" I had to read that a few times. I then felt even weirder when he said it seemed best for both of us that we go our separate ways. What's that?????? Were they married for 17 years or just casual friends???

I have always read his post, to gain knowledge from this "smart man". I think when it comes to video poker, he is tops. But sadly, if he has left his wife to continue to play in casinos...............he's not very smart at all. The love in this relationship must have been gone for quite some time for them to so casually put it aside.

I am married 30 years next month - and if my husband needed me to change my job, especially if it affected his health - I would hand in my resignation in a heartbeat. Oh, and I love to dance, hubby does not............whatever.

I'm sorry but I see that as Dancer's opinion and don't see it as a mutual decision. I was really wondering why he was airing this in his column but it appears he got enough dirty looks that he had no other choice. It certainly isn't Dancer's finest hour.

You're obviously betting on Abandonment Bob. You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows...well, you probably need one.
Everyone seems to be taking the stance that Bob is a prickhead. Well I'll be quite frank and take the opposite stance where I might support Bob wholeheartedly, especially if Shirley gave him an ultimatum whereby Bob would have had to make a decision one way or another and that's what is sounded like from reading the story. Keep in mind Shirley knew when they met 17 years ago that Bob's life revolved exclusively in casinos. If she wanted Bob to quit now she should have known better (Bobalso tried his best to shower immediately upon getting home to no avail to not aggrevate Shirley's condition). Also, we don't know the specifics as to what other factors may have precipitated this unfortunate outcome (ie, money issues, did Shirley smoke previously which caused the COPD, etc.). Bob has no legal or moral obligation to stay w/Shirley especially if she was pressuring Bob to make a decision that Bob didn't want to make. I have no insight into what their relationship was like so I have no say as to whether Bob is in fact a prickhead or just trying to sustain his livelihood). I'll always keep an open-mind and not try to jump to conclusions especially given that I don't know all of the reason why things turned out the way it did.
