Dinner At Benihana's!

My "kids" always take me out for my birthday. Even though my b-day is on the 13th of August, we went out last Saturday the 16th.

Since I get to pick my choice of restaurant, I had originally picked Red Tracton's Steak House near the Del Mar racetrack. But driving around Carlsbad, CA one day before my b-day, I spotted Benihana's and remembered how good that place had been. Every time Faye and I went to Key West, FL(about 4 times), we always went to Benihana's which was right up the road from the Sheraton in Key West.

I called my daughter up since she makes the reservations, and told her to change it to Benihana's instead of Tracton's. She was overjoyed as it was one of her favorite places, and best of all, my granddaughter loved the place.

We all met up at 5:15 pm and my "kids" were already at the bar. Faye had decided to join us as she couldn't pass up the chance to eat at Beni's. We decided to get seated right away as our table was ready.

As most of you would know, you get seated around a large grill where the chef cooks your food and puts on his show! Right away he played up to my granddaughter and did magic tricks and kept her interested in his "show"!

They gave us our onion soup first which was delicious followed by their salad which has that great ginger dressing. It took me one bite to remember how good this place was. Next he spread out a huge layer of rice to be fried. We also received our "dipping" sauces of ginger and mustard.

I ordered the filet and shrimp, while Faye ordered the lobster, shrimp and scallops. I gave Faye some of my filet and she gave me some of her lobster.

After dinner we all received ice cream, but I was "special" so I got a sundae with a candle. Then they took a picture of all of us and said we could get more copies by logging into the Benihana website.

I must say that we all had a great time and can't wait to go back there again soon.
Benihana is a fun place to dine, although the quality of the food is only so-so.
We always loved going to the Japanese staek houses. There was one down in Georgetown, I think called the Samauri, that was a chain and always had great food. I think they're all pretty much the same and never disappoint.
There's a benihana in Vegas on Paradise I believe and they use to have a B-day club you can sign up for online, not sure about it now. It was on one of my lists one time but never made it. I still get email reminders every time my wifes Bday rolls around, I'll have to pay more attention next time.

Happy B-day Bob!!
