Disney(UGH)

First off, I cannot stand disney world, swore I'd never go back there ,but, there's a couple cool things about a last minute trip we're taking to the land of over-priced ears and candy. Most important is that our sons' soccer team is playing in an international soccer tourney down at the ESPN complex next week and we arranged everything last minute that we could go. This is very cool as our kid is a SOCCER NUT, honestly, give the kid a choice between breathing and socceer, he'd take the latter and doing something like this is somewhat of a dreamlike thing for him to do made better that we can all be there. So major score.

Secondly is that since this will be our "family vacation" (which is what precluded any vegas trip), we have time, and wherewithal, to maybe do a vegas trip in the late fall/early winter. Will all depend if I can talk the wife into it. She hasn't been keen on vegas cause thats all we've been going to for past vaca's. Already started warming her to the idea.

Last year we had to go to Disneyland for a dance thing. I just made up my mind that it was going to be the absolute worst time ever like it had been when we went 5 years before. Then, when we got there, it really wasn't that bad. It kind of sucks when kid's activities dictate where the family vacation will be. For some reason, they never have kid activities in Hawaii.

Personally in my humble opinion:

Hawaii makes a great vacation for kids. We live here, and today part of the day was spent at the beach. Last night we attended a Japanese Obon Festival Dance. Next weekend we'll be racing indoor go carts. We have a terrific zoo and aquarium. Even kids are fascinated by Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Air and Space Museum. And what kid or adult doesn't love swimming with the fish at Hanauma Bay. There are beautiful hiking trails only fifteen minutes from Waikiki. And of course you can explore Polynesia at the Polynesian Culture Center.

As far as Disneyworld. We took our daughter three years ago and I LOVED IT. We stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge in a suite that opened up to the African savana. We took the dining option and although it might not be five star cuisine, we tried all the different restaurants at EPCOT and the African food in our hotel. We've traveled all around the country and parts of Asia. I consider the Disneyworld trip one of the best I ever took. Sorry folks, bite my tongue, but there is more to see in this world than Las Vegas. I'm sure wife can't believe I just wrote that.
Make that another person who is a HUGE Disney fan. My wife and I are even in their vacation club, and we don't have children.

We were there 2 weeks ago. It was packed, hot, and the people were rude and nasty...kinda like Vegas.

Still, we had a blast as always. Vegas is our top spot, but disney isn't too far behind.

Oh, and Jatki, I'm one of the owners of a minor league soccer team, so I hope your son does well. When he graduates, send me some game film. We're always looking for good players!

Yeah, I drank the Disney Kool Aid a little over 3 years ago with the birth of our daughter (no, I'm her father, not her grandfather). Now we own every disney film, have annual passes to the resort, just got back from a Disney Cruise and have booked another and are on the waiting list for club 33. Right now my little terror is wearing a curly, red 'Merida' wig from "Brave" and chasing the landscapers with her toy bow and arrow.
Now if we could just get Disney to open a resort in Vegas.
One definetly gets ones money$ worth with a Disney World Vacation

That Small World tune somehow gets locked into the most remote cells of your brain,
relentlessly staying with seemingly no sign of reprive, where it persistantly plays on ........... for month and months.

I have been to Disney fourteen times. I am looking forward to taking trips with our grandkids and reliving the magic through them. After this school year, I'll be retired and we can go when school is back in session and it isn't quite so humid.

Love the Yeti!!

If anyone plans to go to Disneyland, my friend has s "system" worked out from the time you park until the time you leave where you hardly have any wait time. I haven't tried it yet, but it's really supposed to be something.

I went to Disney World about a year after it opened when my kids had a weeks vacation in February. Went there one more time after that to meet a former GF's family down there. and take a cruise afterwards. That had to be about 20 years ago!

I'd like to compare "systems." I 've got one that typically works great for us.

Jatki - good luck with the tourney & I hope your son has a great time. We used to go to all our sons games thru college - loved them all!

My younger son used to kid me about playing softball & I would tell him all baseball players become softball players. He now plays for 3 arc ball teams. My revenge is that I now tell him that when I played softball; at least I played fast pitch

The wife and I also love Disney. We have family in Orlando and we visit them annually, then do a 2 night 1 park stay at Disney.

When we used to go in the summer; we would go to the park until about noon and then call it a day & head to the pools

It is amazing how they are able to manage the crowds and keep the place so clean!!
