Would like to drop in on the El Cortez one afternoon when I am in Vegas next week. Is it safe to walk down that way or am I better off with a quick cab ride to get there from Fremont? Just want to see the history of the El Cortez. Thanks.
El Cortez is on Fremont. It's safe to walk there from the Fremont Street canopy. Maybe less safe at 4am. Alone. With hundred dollar bills sticking out of your pockets.
DonDiego recommends that once RiderPride crosses South Las Vegas Boulevard on his way to the "The El Cortez Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas Like It Used To Be" he assumes a jaunty, cavalier attitude; makes eye-contace with anyone whom he meets, and tips his hat while wishing every passerby a pleasant "Howdy".
Have walked there from FSE area many times. Usually around 10 or 11 in the morning. Will spend the afternoon there. Have never walked there at night though.

Well there is the new Drink and Drag in neonopolis where they have Bowling, Billiards and Drag Queens. I guess a lot depends on your definition of 'interesting'.
