El Cortez questions

Completely safe walk.

The restaurant formerly known as Roberta's now goes by The Flame.

On that block of Fremont, Insert Coins is a fun nightclub with a relatively low douchbag coefficient.
I hit a royal at El Cortez and had no concerns walking back with the extra grand. At night. With thousands of shit-kickers in town for the Academy of Country Musc awards.

Keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings, like you would in any American dowtown. You'll be fine.
If anything happens, just SCREAM LOUDLY and hope someone responds. I've never had a problem waking down there at any hour, but you never know.
They have at least one security guard outside at night.I have never had a problem their.

I just watched a documentary on the ID channel about a murder in Las Vegas. it wasn't at the El Cortez, but you still may want to think about staying at a cheaper place.

They had a rape/murder in a Las Vegas hotel room (cheaper hotel). They took the bedspread with them in the hopes of finding DNA of the rapist. There were literally about 100 different DNA samples on the bedspread (sorry to use the word everybody, but they were "cum stains"). They were told that even though the sheets are washed regularly, the bedspreads are washed about once a year. I would hope that higher end hotels wash them more often, but on my next visit, I will probably take the bedspread off of the bed and throw it against the wall.

In other words, you never go there.

Would like to drop in on the El Cortez one afternoon when I am in Vegas next week.
Is it safe to walk down that way or am I better off with a quick cab ride to get there from Fremont?

It's actually only about a 2 minute walk off Fremont.

Across the street is a bus stop with people waiting, so from there it's just basically across the street.

Once you walk there, you will wonder just what all the "not safe area" talk was all about.

Rick
While you're there, try the 2fer martinis in the new lounge and enjoy the piano player -- I've never had a problem or felt unsafe day or evening walking from the Golden Nugget to ElCortez -- there are a lot of new places to try on the way and lots of bike cops and security around. At 3:30 a.m. can't say...
The Bowling Alley has reopened at the Neonoplis.

Are you referring to a reopened 'normal' Bowling Alley or Drink and Drag, the new bar and bowling alley with performing drag queens serving drinks?
