The End Is Near . . .

. . . for Detroit.

"The Motor City edged closer to [Chapter 9 bankruptcy] Friday when [Emergency Manager Kevyn] Orr declared the city is not paying its bills on time and that he would seek major concessions from bondholders, creditors and unions to clear debt obligations."

Apparently the City negotiators are offering bond insurers, pension trustees, union representatives and other creditors about 10-cents on the dollar for the monies due now.

Damn. I fear that someday soon, a big hand will come down from the sky and lift up Eight Mile Road like it was the edge of a rug. Then a big broom will come down and sweep what’s left of Detroit underneath. On the barren prairie that remains, they’ll put a few relics in a solitary museum to show people what used to be built there.

The big line moved
One mile an hour
So loud it really hurt
The big line moved
So loud it really hurt
Back in ’55
We were makin’ Thunderbirds

We filled conveyors
We met production
Foremen didn’t waste words
We met production
Foremen didn’t waste words
We were young and proud
We were makin’ Thunderbirds

We were makin’ Thunderbirds
We were makin’ Thunderbirds
They were long and low
And sleek and fast
They were all you’ve ever heard
Back in ‘55
We were makin’ Thunderbirds

Wow.

The state passed a law that allows the governor to toss aside the local governments of any municipality and replace them with an unelected, hand picked manager of the governors choosing. Detroit, Pontiac, and a host of other cities have had their elected officials swapped out. Hows that working out? I'm pretty sure the elected governments could have filed for chapter 9 as well as the governors puppet.

Yeah, but those puppets are being paid much more than the elected officials....

It's what a city gets when it elects democrats to guide a city inundated with the minority element. Glad to see its demise.
