Ever lock yourself out?

I did yesterday, despite trying to be SO careful. Came home to find the new front storm door had somehow gotten locked. I had a key for the inside door but not that one.
Had to call my sister for a locksmith. He wound up arriving about 2 1/2 hours after he said he would. Had no idea what he'd charge. I'd read some people have paid more than $400. This wasn't that bad but still no bargain. For awhile I didn't know if he'd be able to open the door but finally did, after about 20 minutes. It cost $133. I heard their website advertised $19.95, so much for that.
I know I'll go out of my way to make sure this does not happen again. In the past I could usually find even an unlocked window to crawl through, which I've done before...though it was much easier when I was 4 years old than now!
If this has ever happened to any of you, you have my utmost sympathy.

You could have broken a window and/or screen for much less, and without the long wait.

BTW, Hide a key under a rock or in some inconspicuous place (for next time).

My wife locked herself out when the power went out and the garage door opener wouldn't work.. Same situation. Locked storm door but no key. Had key to inside door. Storm doors have a bit of flex in them. I put a screwdriver in the jab just under the latch and a quick pop and 10 seconds later she was in the house. She said "thank you" but now thinks I'm some kind of elite burglar to have been able to pop the lock so easily, and with no damage to the door.

I dunno Snidely, you kinda look like the mischevious B&E type..

I've had to climb in my bathroom window more than once. I got lucky and there was a ladder in the back yard. Once my daughter was big enough I was able to lift her through the window which avoided the how should I go through the window feet first or head first question. Now we have new windows and I doubt I'd be able to break in.
My mom also had to call a locksmith to open my van when she accidentally locked my son inside but it was free of charge since there was a trapped kid.
We have keys to two neighbor homes, and they have keys to ours, works great.

My Monte Carlo is equipped with OnStar.
If I'm locked out, I call them and my car will be remotely unlocked via satellite.

However, for years I've carried an extra car key in my wallet (and still do).

My car came with a plastic wallet key. The key was inside a credit card sized frame. Never used it. It's in the house with the other set of keys.

Well that's the answer.
I'm sending a spare key to Chilcoot.
