Protesters against the Texas legislation to regulate/limit abortion had schemed to enter the legislative chamber armed with tampons with which they intended to pelt legislators whom they oppose. The authorities got wind of the plan and confiscated the tampons as the protesters entered the chamber. DonDiego is unaware of the specific details, like how they knew where they were, and how they were extracted, etc., etc., etc.

DonDiego realizes this explanation does not actually explain why unlimited-abortion proponents link tampons with terminating pregnancy, . . . pr'bly something about keeping the law out of their uteruses, . . . or something.

Hey, it could've been worse - they could've been used.

I think women are a little upset about the small government champions of Texas deciding to force women to engage in a littany of hurdles and unecessary medical procedures to pursue an abortion. Also, the new laws are expected to shut down over 50 (all but 4) abortion clinics in the entire state of Texas.

I know its a little bit petty... a proud "libertarian" government making decisions for women on what to do with their own bodies. I mean its not like they're really doing something dramatic like putting a limit on soft drink sizes.

Here are some of the requirements of the new law

1) bans abortions after 20 weeks

2) requires all abortion facilities to meet the standards of "ambulatory surgical centers" that perform outpatient surgery

3) requires doctors performing abortions to have hospital admitting privileges

As a patient wouldn't you like your doctor to have admitting privileges at a hospital or considering that you having surgery that the center meet the standards of an ambulatory surgical center?

Many abortions dont require ambulatory surgery. Many abortion clinics simply dont offer that service - they might only offer the morning after pill (for example). The new law says either you are a full blown surgery clinic with locker rooms and showes for surgical doctors or you can offer no services whatsoever. The estimated costs of getting all clinics up to these new unintrusive-small-government requirements is estimated in the 100's of millions of dollars - hence the shutting down of 90% of Texas's clinics.

As to your question regarding what I would want in an abortion clinic...I'm afraid I cant answer. I'm a man and not in touch with such issues. I'll defer to women with tampon earings.
