Why do some folks call any discussion of current events "political" ?

Because some people are so consumed by their personal politics that they can't understand current events in any other context.

Many seem to think Obama is so intelligent that he should forgo his golf to develop an economic solution to our recession, plan a military solution to ISIS that won't endanger civilians, verbally intimidate Putin, and come up with a cure or vaccine for Ebola in his spare time. But at the same time they scoff at this intelligence and ability to do these very things.

Obama be like, I can't fix any of those problems. I'm going golfing. I got my people working on it. Later.

Dang if you guys ain’t starting to drift right off into the political weeds.

We need to get back on the cheerful, uplifting track that friedmush intended for this thread. With football season underway, I think perhaps an anatomical, non-political cheer from the stands might be appropriate:

Ricky Ric, Ricky Rac
Bim, Bam, God Damn
Forkie is a Horse’s Bum
Rah, Rah, Shit

See? Don’t that make you feel better already? I thought so. Y’all are welcome.

You have a point, also because not everything political is contentious. So maybe "partisan" or "partisan political" would be better.

So it would be better phrased as, "no right-wingers initiated a partisan political thread the last three days," right?

Perhaps they are getting busy and paying more attention to the "Nude Celebrity" thread and it's links, so their right wing has been busy. Oh, yeah, and some left wings too.
