Georgia gun legislation

Here's what I found from NBC News regarding Stand Your Ground. "The bill’s detractors are emphasizing a provision that they argue will expand Georgia’s 'stand your ground' law, allowing felons to claim self-defense if they feel threatened and kill someone with a gun. Those opponents cite a Georgia Senate Research Office analysis of the bill."

I find it interesting that "detractors" cite the "Georgia Senate Research Office" instead of quoting the bill. Boilerman would quote the bill, but unlike the “detractors”, I don’t hold the bill in my grubby little hands.

The new law address those concerns by A. Making it illegal for state law enforcement to ask a gun owner if he/she has a permit for their gun and B. It allows the felon to invoke the Stand Your Ground defense even if they were illegally carrying. I am drunk in a hotel room otherwise I'd provide a citation, but all one has to do is Google it.

Certainly an envelope pushing concept. I a wonder if a felon could break into your home to rob you, wait for you to say "stop thief" and then shoot you based on the theory he was afraid you had a gun and were going to shoot him? It also kind of kills the whole concept of felony murder. So if your a criminal in Georgia make sure to always carry a gun and kill your victims otherwise you wont be able to use this new envelope pushing defense.

Don't you feel much safer now?

Crooks just hate people with CCW's. Why, they may wake up dead when trying to get an easy pice of a$$.

Of course folks on the left will decry something about racist somwhere along the line.
The Wild West was full of drunk cowboys with guns in Saloons. And nobody ever got shot.

Now the crooks have CWs themselves and can legally shoot you if you go after them.

As an Atlanta native, when I first heard about this bill, I rolled my eyes.

Unfortunately, when something big happens in Atlanta the "backwards southern racist redneck" jokes come out. However, this is a VERY VERY blue city in a red state.
Furthermore, Atlanta is not a safe town. There are some parts of the city that are wonderful, but there is a reason most people live outside the city limits.

It will be interesting to see where this goes, if anything more than a lot of people yelling at each other.

And for those that argue its the Republicans fault and the Republican Gov. is turning Ga. into the Wild Wild West, his Democratic Challenger, Jason Carter also approved/supported the bill.
So, we will see..

Not surprising. There are a lot scared (almost paranoid) folks out there. I see many posts on the pro gun sites that I frequent where large burly men are afraid to visit cities unless they are carrying. I visit these cities unarmed and I'm not burly. I'm not scared. I'm cautious but I allow fear to control me. I'd rather run away than confront danger so carrying in the big city is not a goal of mine except in certain situations where I prefer to be armed. A lot of redneck types feel naked if they're unarmed.
Snidely, my 22 years old boy is a 2013 graduate of Indiana University. He and three of his equally, and hopefully temporarily, poor friends live in a very bad part of Indianapolis. They are 8 months deep into a 12 month lease, and they were been robbed while at work during week #1. Four weeks ago, my son and his girlfriend were held up at gun point while getting out of his car immediately outside of his rental. He had the gun in his face for about a minute. Three weeks ago and one block to the west, the mini mart was held up at gunpoint. Last week, the drug house 5 blocks to the north experienced a driveby shooting with 22 rounds hitting the home.

I wish my son carried a gun, and I wish that he blew this punk into Never, Neverland. My boy is now making a nice salary, yet he won't leave until his contract expires. He's staying on principle, yet I'm concerned that he won't experience a 23rd birthday.

I've lived in a bad part of town, but only for a couple months, when I was in my 20s. We had a .357 but I'd rather move than kill someone. Your son is braver than me. But sometimes it is all a matter of familiarity. After I moved from the bad part of town, I moved a fairly bad part of town. The neighbor 4 doors down murdered the guy at the local mini-mart and the guy 3 door down was found murdered in the park a block away. From the outside looking in, the neighborhood was dangerous but living there it wasn't so scary. Maybe it was just youthful stupidity.
So you think it is best for your son to get in a shoot out? Why does everybody think that because they can carry a gun they will be the ones who come out alive? He may be alive right now because he did not have a gun. If you think carrying a gun makes you invincilble you are a fool. I work in some pretty bad parts of town and have not felt threatened though I am careful. Paranoid is no way to go through life.

As a side note I used to come to this site for an escape to a place I enjoy but only find fools like yourself with nowhere else to spew your political crap so go ahead and bash me as I don't think I will be back here for your fing bullshit anymore boilerman you are racist asshole.
