Getting to Reno???

Help....yes, airfare is outrageous! Husband and I would like to go to Reno and surrounding areas. We've been there before and would like to return.

Airfare to Reno from Newark is very high - and no direct flights.

Have tried Boise, Salt Lake City also. Anyone know of another airport we could use that would be cheaper??

Seems the best route to go would be to fly into Las Vegas and drive but we've done that several times.
Would like to have a more direct flight there.

Prices for all destinations are pretty darn high. We'd like to travel the beginning of June (11th-22).
Has anyone ever done this route and if so, which was the best and cheapest airfare (need ideas!).

We'd like to visit Wannamucca, Eureka and do a loop to and from Reno.

Thanks in advance!
The drive from Salt Lake to Reno is soul killing.
Spend the extra money and fly into Reno. One stop in Chicago.
Did you try San Francisco? Salt Lake City had a driving time about 7 hours, and San Francisco was only about 3 1/2. Sacramento is even closer, (2 +), but I'd guess it would be more expensive.

This About.com Page has driving distances from California cities, and there is another page with distances from more cities throughout the west, but CA seems to be the best bet.

Good luck with your quest, and please write a trip report when you get back!
Have you tried Sacramento?

The drive from Vegas is long and booooooring.
I remember when Reno Air first started, they had trips from LAX to Reno for $39. Since I had never been there, I started going to Reno for a couple of nights instead of Vegas. The more they let these airlines merge, the higher the prices are going to be. I think Reno Air was taken over by American Airlines not too long after they started.
If you can find reasonable flights to Vegas, Allegiant Air has $45 flights each way to Reno.

Your cheapest option will probably be on Southwest. You can get to Reno from Newark with just one change, in either Chicago (Midway), Denver, or Phoenix.

Be aware that Southwest is still in the process of merging with airTran. So if you're the (thankfully rare) sort who won't fly on an airline that merges, Southwest is out. Otherwise, it's probably your cheapest option.

3 1/2 hours?
Maybe at 2AM. That's a 5 hour plus ride in real time baby.
