Health inspectors have closed two eating areas in the iconic Golden Nugget casino in downtown Las Vegas for numerous code violations including a pest infestation.

The Southern Nevada Health District inspectors ordered the closure of the 24-hour Carson Street Cafe and the employee dining area on Tuesday.

According to the following article, this was a major infestation that also resulted in the closing of Lillie's Asian Cuisine in addition to the aforementioned Carson Street Cafe and the Cellar Cafe Employee Dining Room.

For the past two months all I have read about is poor restaurant ratings by the Health Department Officials in Las vegas. What I really have to question about all these inspections is the fact of WHY????? Did the Health Department in the past just simply overlook these inspections or is there a complete new set of inspectors doing the inspections from top to bottom. Health inspections are to be taken seriously and action taken quickly to correct any violation. I was a business that we were always getting these types of inspections and took them serious. We would accompany the Inspectors and correct violations and ask for a re-inspection follow-up. How can all these places that I have read about in Las Vegas all of a sudden have these serious problems. It really does not make a lost of sense if the inspections were correctly done in the past. Must be a new Sheriff in town like the series VEGAS now showing on TV.

yuck and barf
Maybe they need a visit from that guy on the Health Inspectors show, Ben. They could actually turn it in to something commercial by showing all the work they needed to fix up the place and get rid of the violations and then airing it on that show.

I just hope that the other downtown eateries won't get closed by the health department. would hate to see MSS buffet closed.
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It's a bad day to dine at the Golden Nugget hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas, whether you work there or you're just visiting.
Health inspectors have been very busy there in the last two days, tracking down pests and closing down restaurants.
Creepy crawlies of the six-legged variety have taken up residence at the Golden Nugget.
They didn't rent a room at the downtown hotel.
They're living and reproducing where employees and customers are eating.

The sign posted outside the Golden Nugget's Cellar Cafe Employee Dining Room shows health inspectors shut it down for an imminent health hazard.
On Tuesday, inspectors found what they call a "multi-generational" infestation. Whole families of roaches had set up shop "throughout food prep and food storage areas including floor drains and in the electrical access panel."

Inspectors also found heavy rust buildup and mold inside the ice machine, which was so bad it was red-tagged and immediately taken out of service.

Inspectors were last in the Cellar Cafe just one month ago.
On Nov. 13, they found some expired potato salad and noted another pest problem -- that time it was fruit flies throughout the facility, at the salad station, by the dish machine and the drains.

Today, health inspectors shut down both the Carson Street Cafe and Lillie's Asian Cuisine. The two restaurants share a kitchen and operate above the employee dining area.
All are infested with cockroaches.

No one from the Golden Nugget would go on camera, but they did send a written statement saying: "We are clearly upset and disappointed that somebody dropped the ball. This should never happen. We retain the services of a professional outside vendor, and are angry and disappointed this happened. A full investigation is being launched as to how this occurred, and we assure all of our guests that it will not happen again."

The Golden Nugget says remedying the roach problem is their highest priority right now.
And although they want to re-open everything as soon as possible, they haven't scheduled re-inspections yet because they want to be sure the roaches are gone for good.
YIKES! I've always said that since Landry's took over the food isn't so good. Didn't know it included bugs!

Bev
I smell multiple coupons in the MRB next year. Buy one roach sandwich get one free.
MY QESTION STILL REMAINS IS THERE A ENTIRELY NEW SET OF INSPECTORS OR DID FINALLY SOMEONE TELL THE OLDER ONES IT GOT TO STOP HERE. WAY TOO MANY BAD REPORTS IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE THE RESTAURANTS AND THE INSPECTORS BOTH SHARE EQUAL BLAME ON SUCH A BAD WRAP THAT THE LAS VEGAS EATERIES ARE GETTING HERE OF LATE. EVERYONE WANTS TO BE ASSURED WHAT FOOD THEY ARE EATING IS GOOD-----CLEAN --SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION. I KNOW HERE LOCALLY THE INSPECTIONS AND BEEN CUT WAY BACK AND THEY USE TO PUBLISH THE RESULTS IN OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER THIS HAS ALL COME TO AND END.
