Goodbye Imperial Palace

They started taking down the letters today.

Personally,I am sorry to see the IP go.I don't like all these overly expensive yuppie casinos.
So is the plan to take the IP down and build a new casino, or just change the letters to spell something different ?

From the current posted picture I guess you could call it the "I Gone Palace"

I have so many good stories from that place. I think I'm personally going to refuse the name change and continue to call it the IP
I've only stayed there a couple of times and never really got a "feel" for the place. At one time, they had the hottest cocktail waitress outfits in town....only to be outdone by the RIO!

I was walking around the Mall of new Hampshire in 1990 looking for a Christmas present for my wife the bingo addict when I came across a Las Vegas sign on a window of a travelagency. I figured if she likes bingo she will love las Vegas.
The travel agency hooked us up with a round trip flight for two, a car, and 4 nights at the Imperial Palace" all for the poultry sum of $1,800! I can do the same trip now for half that and have better occomidations!(thanks LVA!)
Anyway, when we got to Las Vegas, the taxi took us to the Imperial palace. That damned taxi driver could have taken us to the Imperial Palace via Colarado and I would have not have noticed becouse I was so mesmerized by the strips lights and when we got out of the taxi under all those lights under the canopy at the I.P, I remember staring at the canapy and thinking "this has to be the most beautiful casino in all of Las Vegas!
When we got to the front desk, the check in lady was wearing a very colorful Chinees outfit, unbuttoned to show a LOT of boobage! I was 29 at the time and between the lights and that check in lady's uniform...I was hooked for life!
I dont remember even leaving the Imperial Palace on our first trip, Why would I? I was at the best already.
Our bank roll for the 4 days was $300, yup, I said "our" bank roll-$300 - 4 days!
I personally will miss the old girl! (and the HO, and the Stardust, and the.....well you get the idea)

I picked up 10 packs of Imperial Palace playing cards for $1 in their gift shop. They've already started to call in the "Quad" in some of their signs and literature. It will take a long time to transition 100% to the new name. The casino has very nice people working there. Might not be the fanciest place but the workers are friendly not like Riviera full of mean workers.
I'm sure I'll call it the IP for quite a while if not forever, and it will still be my favorite place on the strip to gamble, barring any drastic changes. A nice facelift of the interior was overdue for sure.

I believe that in the center/bottom of their pool there is a large "IP" logo.

I guess they are now going to have to drain the enormous pool and make a change.
