The Government Has Shut Down [01OCT2013]

Well, . . . DonDiego awoke this morning at a little after 6:00am EDT.

He is pleased to report his toilet still flushes. And there was sufficient power to operate the coffeemaker. Oh, and the computer still works.

And, best of all, the National Security Agency van that had been parked across the street is gone.

Anyone else experiencing difficulties?
Dunkin donuts was open, the traffic signals all worked and the lights are on in my office, but the best part was that LVA was up and running.
Maybe the LVA will be faster today with the NSA shutdown ---- probably not
I was hoping the power would be out at work, ............. but that's not the case.

Rick

Who might be experiencing difficulties today? Hmmmm...maybe 1 of the 800k workers that are expected to be furloughed....or maybe one of the million workers expected to work without pay....or maybe one of the million small business owners that rely on those workers' business...or maybe an Iraq vet who's scheduled appointment with their ptsd counsellor has been cancelled....or maybe a child enrolled in the step program...or maybe an elderly woman who gets dinner delivered on the meals-on-wheels program...

If you dont fall into any of these groups directly and dont care for the plight of the individuals in these groups you likely should care anyway. The government is the largest employer and largest spender in the US economy. So if you fall into the category of "shareholder" of any US Fortune 500 company you will likely be experiencing some very well defined difficulties in the near future.

I suspect the greatest difficulties will be endured by Any elected member of Congress that is associated with the shutdown. Ask Newt G what I mean.
"or maybe an Iraq vet who's scheduled appointment with their ptsd counsellor has been cancelled...."

In spite of what obama said the VA is funded to take care of vets health needs.

Many have questioned the need for all these federal workers who are more likely to die on the job than get fired.

On the plus side with the regulatory agencies shut down, less govt regulation and less spying on the citizens

So, . . . no personal difficulties for pjstroh, . . . other than an anxiety attack?

Aside from the fact that a big chunk of my life savings is in the stock market, I'm doing just peachy. I tend to suffer from anxiety when I lose money resulting from pissing contests in Washington. I'm weird that way.

Wait till the action of 1.8 million consumers being removed overnight from the economy takes effect. Lets see what the plus side looks like then. In 1995 it took about 4 weeks before Newt G couldn't find many pluses anymore.

Just to relieve some of pjstroh's anxiety, . . . NO employees in the Veterans Administration involved with medical services, medical support and compliance, or medical facilities are furloughed.
