This is what the democrats could have done to avert this

1- obama skips his weekend golf game
2- obama chooses to extend the same courtesy to Republicans as he does to Iran - negotiate
3- the senate stays in session for the weekend
4- the senate agrees to a conference to hammer out a deal
5- the senate agrees to not take the their obamacare exemption
6- the senate agrees to provide individuals the same same 1 year delay that businesses received

Oh, just in keeping with the spirit of the original post....

- I suffered no personal difficulties when two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center.
- I suffered no personal difficulties when BP spilled a few billion barrels of oil into the gulf.
- I suffered no personal difficulties when Bernie Madoff sold fraudulent securities to investors
- I suffered no personal difficulties when GM declared bankruptcy

I'm glad the federal government doesnt base its collective policy on my individual difficulties. I have a feeling that wouldn't be incredibly thoughtful.

Im pretty sure folks will survive whatever temporary setbacks that will be imposed upon them by the govt shutdown. Remember how the sequester was supposed to have such DRACONIAN affects on the country? Well, we are somehow surviving that too. Id even venture to bet the avg person doesnt even know its still in effect(it is isnt it?). Some will get overly excited about it,most wont even know it happened.

At the moment the sequester funding limits are in effect, . . . and they would remain in effect had the disputed Continuing Resolution been passed, . . . pretty much, anyway. The Bill retains 100% of the non-defense sequester cuts and 60% of the cuts to defense.

Oh and the stock mkt is positive for the moment even healthcare and insurance sector. For now anyway.

Maybe if the brain dead Senators, Representatives, Cabinet members and their fearless leader Obama would do their jobs and structure and enact a Balanced Budget we citizens of the United States would not have to deal with the government shutdown. This group of 400+ worthless assholes needs to be voted out and replaced with honest, caring Americans who would do the job they are elected to do.
