Hoffa

Jimmy Hoffa was a convicted criminal, who was pardoned by a pardoned criminal, President Richard Nixon, and the pardon was arranged by a couple of subsequently convicted criminals, Attorney General John Mitchell and White House Counsel John Dean.

Turns out Hoffa would have been safer in prison.

Hoffa wanted his post babk as head of the union. When he saw that they weren't going to give it back to him, he threatened to release information that would be damaging to the mob. One thing he might have mentioned was the mob's participation in the assassination of JFK. There's a very good book about the subject called, "Contract On America".
