Holy rip-off Batman...car rental rates have gotten disgusting

Looking at car rental rates for early March - nothing on airport for less then $50 a day?

This is a progression of a sad trend that has been going on for me for the last several years. Time was you could rent a car for the week for just over $100. Not anymore I guess.

Maybe I need to consider no car this time...
Keep checking. They'll come down. When I first started looking for my July trip the prices were way too high but they came down. I ended up booking through AAA and I got the added bonus of not getting pressured for extra insurance. Before I walked away from the rental counter I thanked him for not giving me the hard sale and he said he doesn't bother with people who have AAA because they are already covered pretty well.
Hey Now!
I started looking in May for 10 days over Labor Day. Yesterday the rates went down by $50. Still almost double what we paid for the same period in 2010.
I've been checking rates since mid May for my November 3 days with a Saturday overnite keep. Alamo who I usually go through has not changed their

price since I first started checking. I can't believe that for 3 days they want a total of over $220.00 for an economy/compact car. Ridiculous. I even sent an

e-mail to them asking if something was wrong with their site as it has not changed since mid May. Received a garbage answer back. I however was fortunate

enough to find another supplier after checking everyday several suppliers and my total cost is: $66.00 for the 3 days. Much better and affordable.

Your problem is probably related to the fact that it's August. If I ran a car rental company and someone tried to book a regular, nothing special car with me seven months in advance, I would suspect that the person isn't experienced with renting a car and would think I might be able to get them to pay more than the going rate.

I'm not saying you're inexperienced, Joe K. But I could see how a rental car company might suspect you were, relative to its other customers.
I have to change my above remarks as I just checked Alamo and lo and behold their prices have come way down. I

was able to use a coupon code for 1 free week end day from the Entertainment 2012 book and now I am saving

myself over $6.00 for the three days rentals. Final price is: $60.46 which is much, much better and also I am now

able to use the Kiosk and no line-up.

I have agree they are out of sight. I am looking for mid September and it for a economy car $300 . This might be the first time in many many years that I do not rent a car.
Recently we have found the prices don't typically come down until the month you are traveling. We leave in a few days and there were no discounts to be found until the beginning of August.

While not the best deal we've had, we ended up with $171 tax & title for 6 days in an SUV - same price we were seeing for an economy car.
Prices dropped significantly for my November trip. I have an economy for a week all in for $98 with Alamo. Using codes 7015309 and coupon AD2359FDF.

March 2013?

Maybe wait a little longer like after New Years and then check the rates.
