Hotel Stay - Next Trip

It was a regular room on the 9th floor. I wish it had been summertime, because it faced the wave pool and also the stage where they hold outdoor concerts in the summer. I have stayed at the Hotel many times and enjoyed it, but I stayed at the MB this time because of the comped room I won on myVegas.com. I stayed in the MB about ten years ago and thought the decor wasn't nearly as nice as it is now.

The MB has a great sports book, casino floor, and restaurants.

I was also impressed by the staff. The hotel must have pushed that all of them be extra friendly. I commented on how nice and helpful everybody was on their survey.

There are several MGM properties. It seems like you are choosing between two properties on the opposite end of their quality spectrum. You may be happy somewhere better than Luxor but not as pricey as Aria. Mandalay Bay is nice and their pool is fantastic if that matters at all to you or your traveling companions. Have a great trip!
I stayed in Luxor last June. Let me say a few words about the Luxor. The Luxor used to be my Vegas hotel. I was not a big player, but the room rates were always below strip averages. Many times I would stay at the Luxor and play at the Mandalay Bay. When I first started staying at the Luxor, I stayed in the Pyramid rooms. Over the years, the rooms fell into complete deterioration. The windows leaked and stained the curtains. The bathrooms had cheap hollow doors that had holes in them. There is also wallpaper peeling in the bathrooms. The beds had plain bedspreads that probably would make a CSI inspector faint if they ever put a blacklight to them. The inclinators (elevators in the four corners of the pyramid that go upwards in a slant) had signs that were ripped off and graffiti and scratches in them. The rooms did not have central air but had individual air conditioning units. The last time I tried to check into a Pyramid room it was 85 degrees with the air conditioner going full blast. I immediately switched to a tower room.

The tower rooms were at least newer. They were roomier and the decor was much more pleasant than the pyramid rooms. The bathrooms were much nicer also. Even though the tower rooms were built after the pyramid rooms they were remodeled at least once, where the pyramid rooms were not remodeled at all. In my last visit I noted the following:

They reduced the drinking glasses in the tower rooms from two glasses to one glass.
They used to have separate shampoo and conditioner, now they have a single bottle of shampoo/conditioner
The tower rooms are in disrepair
We were there during the Electric Daisy Carnival. I swear there were at least ten people in the room next to us.
They took out the music lounge, which used to be one of the best.
They reduced the number of table games in the casino.

This looks like a casino that has started its death countdown.

Even though the Luxor is newer than the Excalibur, I predict it will be imploded before the Excalibur.
BAGiant - yeah i love May in Vegas I think its about the best time of year to be there - hot enough but not too hot to be at the pool. That said im mostly in the casinos.

JillyF - that looks decent - I kinda want to keep in the MGM group though as I like to have ahost etc and when ive been at luxor the comps were always decent.

RouletteMan - Decent staff go a long way to making the experience at any hotel. It can make up for a lot. I've always wanted to try Mandalay because of the pool etc. We normally check out a couple of their resteraunts when we stay at Luxor as they are so close - Burger Bar is excellent and we have had a couple of very good if not expensive meals at Strip Steak.

I would say your review of Luxor is exactly the same as mine - even as a lowish player they always look after us really well and we hardly ever pay for anything at the end of a trip - but it was so bad an experience that i just dont want to stop there this year - the dealers and staff werentrude or anything they just all seemed bored/ tired and dint want to be there.

When we went to Aria or Cosmo it seemed like they had just been waiting for us to arrive so they could help us out or make our day more entertaining at the tables.

Liondownnow - You're right they are probably the extreme in the MGM range - i just think if i'm spending money i might as well go for it and go all out. lol. Theres worse problems to have than this I know ;-)

Cheers guys for the input - it just feels good to be planning the trip and talking about Vegas.

I stayed in Monte Carlo last summer. It wasn't good. Either I'm getting more snobby or the hotels are getting worse. It's to a point where I won't stay in any of the cheaper hotels now. If it had to be MLife that would mean MB, Mirage or Aria. Aria is nice but a little snooty. Mirage is fine but I don't care for the casino. Too subdued for me. MB is great except the location.

Overall, my wife and I have become Paris people. We thought Monte Carlo was the MLife equivalent to Paris but we prefer Paris a lot more.
I'm with Snidely...If hotel I like paris.
Yeah we normally end up spending a bit of time at Paris.

We like to go for breakfast on the Patio at Mon Ami Gabi and that normally turns into a few hours in the Paris Casino after breakfast. I like the vibe in there and the staff are always great.

Maybe I need to break out of the MGM rut. Lol.
Well its booked.

Spoke to a host yesterday at Aria and he hooked me up with a city view corner suite and adjoining queen room for 7 nights in May. $2240 including all taxes and fees.

Limo pick up from the airport etc.

I thought that was pretty decent so took it.

Looking forward to a new home base this year.

If anyone has any must do items at Aria let me know - i'll post up a Trip Report once we return.

Let the countdown begin.
