What company causes an economy to lose jobs directly and indirectly by unionizing and still expect to be afforded incentives. Idiots.
Oh Christ, Malibber. For those who've worked with and around unions know how things work. Say whatever you like, but the unions threaten people regularly with physical harm, and damage to their property. I private vote eliminates the ability for them to use threats.

Those who have lived around unions know the truth.

There have been no allegations of illegal activity. The only threats and intimidation have been from the conservative politicians.

Since Don Diego commented on this thread I'd love to hear how he feels about Coker Motors?

I agree that government should get involved to stop illegal activities of us who grew up in Chicago know that unions will regularly threaten folks with physical violence, and the reason for a secret vote is to eliminate this illegal activity.

Those who desire anything other than a secret vote wish for a union's ability to continue these threats.

The only threats made that I am aware of are the ones made by Republican politicians in Tennessee. Unions provide average people access to a middle class lifestyle. We desperately need more unions to increase the size of the middle class in this country.

I have friends who have or do work for the Teamsters and the UAW. I've asked and each will tell me of stories or promises by union thugs. It's eithe a promise of physical harm or destroyed equipement. You've not experienced the real World.

Why does the union want a public vote?

Unless DonDiego is mistaken the vote is to start tomorrow.

He has still failed to see any "threats" by anyone to anyone in regard to what is transpiring in Chattanooga.

Latest from the local Chattanooga Times Free Press:
Tennessee Legislators battle over Chattanooga VW plant union vote
Bob Corker urges Chattanooga VW workers to vote against UAW

DonDiego sees a legal process proceeding in a legal manner.
He expects the vote to go smoothly.
He hopes VW, its employees, the UAW, Tennessee Legislators and Government Officials all conduct themselves in a legal manner afterwards.

Some quotes from Don Diego's link:

However, state Rep. JoAnne Favors termed the incentives remark "coercion and intimidation" of employees.

Quote

Nashville attorney George Barrett warned in a news conference at the state Capitol that if state officials carry through with such threats, they could be sued in court.

He said retaliation could be seen as violating both the National Labor Relations Act and provisions in the U.S. Constitution.

Quote

Jones, a Democrat who represents part of Nashville, said the Republican legislators are "threatening employees" with the incentives package.

Quote

"In my 20 years on the hill, I've never seen such a massive intrusion into the affairs of a private company," said House Democratic Leader Craig Fitzhugh. "When management and workers agree -- as they do at Volkswagen -- the state has no business interfering.

Yep, nothing to see here just threats, coercion, intimidation and violation of Federal Labor Laws.

So malliber supports the physical threats and intimidation of the auto unions. He also apparently wants to see many unemployed for the sake of the fortunate few. What a guy.
...Another cause of long-term unemployment is unionization. High union wages that exceed the competitive market rate are likely to cause job losses in the unionized sector of the economy. Also, those who lose high-wage union jobs are often reluctant to accept alternative low-wage employment. Between 1970 and 1985, for example, a state with a 20 percent unionization rate, approximately the average for the fifty states and the District of Columbia, experienced an unemployment rate that was 1.2 percentage points higher than that of a hypothetical state that had no unions. To put this in perspective, 1.2 percentage points is about 60 percent of the increase in normal unemployment between 1970 and 1985.
