I have stayed downtown for many years. Being a B Connected member, I have my choice of the Fremont, Main Street or the California. I have tried all 3 and enjoy the Cal the most. Non smoking room is comfortable, bathroom nicer and larger than the Fremont( on par with the Palace Station tower rooms) , quieter than the Main Street and I find the location ideal for moving around the downtown properties. I have stayed @ the Vegas club - the rooms are dated and elevator service is iffy and slow. I stayed recently @ the 4 Queens and received a suite upgrade ( check in timing, I guess)- the room was roomy but somewhat dated. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the suite and I like the casino. Never stayed @ the Nugget- I do find the gaming lousy and the employees do not seem to enjoy their jobs. One day I hope to give the El Cortez a try. As for the Plaza, Binion's,Golden Gate, Gold Spike or the "new" D's are concerned, I just have no desire to stay at any of those properties. No particular reason why - as I have said the Cal works for me and I will be staying there for the majority of my future visits. One other important thing to consider," resort fees". I refuse to stay at any property that charges me a "resort fee". If your room is being comped this is usually not a concern, though some properties are charging this "fee" for comped rooms. Always ask when reserving your room if you will be charged the"resort fee". I hope this info has been helpful.
