If it's Thursday, it must be Tikrit . . .

Maybe President Obama should heed the advice of McCain and other Republicans, and keep a strong military presence in Iraq.

Or maybe not.

I just want to see a picture of Don Diego is his cheerleader outfit waiving his pom-poms. Is that too much to ask?

And don't worry, DonDiego, I won't impugn your intelligence or character any further. You do that just fine on your own.

Yes, . . . yes, . . . everyone likes to read about DonDiego's failings.

But to return to the topic, can forkushV reconcile these two statements:

“. . . al Qaeda is on the run . . . ”

"Al Qaeda controls more territory than ever in Middle East".

I answered before, so I'll quote myself - this time with feeling: "I'm pretty sure that he meant that al Qaeda is on the run. One year and seven months ago. But things change. Iraq's fate, as the future home of Islamist radicals, was sealed the day President Bush gave the invasion orders."

It turns out Iraq's army was pretty much an empty shell, just like the "South" Vietnamese army was pretty much an empty shell. That's what happens when foreign countries occupy and try to impose their will.

Some of us knew that out in 2002.

"hatred" is a pretty strong word. Just because someone does not agree with how our country is being operated does mean "hate"! I do not care for this president what-so-ever. I think he is incompetent in being a leader and is so arrogant that the leaders of countries have no respect for him. But, that does not mean I have "hatred" for him.
As you dems keep bashing Bush for the actions we took in Iraq. Your party supported the invasion as well as the Republicans! SO stop pointing fingers and blaming the guy next to you!
Why make a statement that "we have Al Qaeda on the run"? Go about your business.

Not true - a majority of Congressional Democrats OPPOSED the authorization for war. And it was opposed by virtually all of the liberal Democrats.*

But I blame everyone who supported the disaster; obviously Bush, any Democrats who supported it, and you rdwoodpecker if you supported it. Hillary was denied the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, and probably the presidency, because of her stupidity and cowardice on that vote. I'm proud to say I helped her lose.

What's happening in Iraq now was predicted and predictable.

Was that before or after they voted for the war???
Was that before or after the Clinton administration was in office?
You tend to forget that President Bush was given authority to go to war not once but twice by those same Democrats.

final bill

breakout of the votes

I think somebody is forgetting something....

Thanks for the link, chef. It shows that 97% of Congressional Republicans voted for the resolution, and a majority of Democrats - 60% - voted against it. Like I said.

Dude, do you always lead with your chin?
Is there any part of obama's foreign policy working?
Hate to burst the cons bubble but the collapse in in Iraq was predicted by most of us left wingers. We knew it would take 100ks of troops stationed in Iraq forever to maintain order as it was never a real country. It was created by political fiat not any cohesive will of the people. I think even Johnny McCain conceded it would take a 100 years or more at one point. You can't be fiscally conservative and want to maintain that unwanted occupation troop level in Iraq for that long.

Every time I think of Iraq I think of my brother in law that did two tours there as an enlisted national guardsman. He was making just under 40k a year in the civilian world before he left. He is now on SSDI and ARMY Disability he gets about 80k a year mostly tax free. His kids get several thousands a month in cash benefits too. Even his wife gets $1,200 a month in cash benefits. He has several friends he met in Iraq and they are all in the same boat. This is what George's little war is costing you and it is gonna cost you thousands of times more over the next 40-50 years. You guys want it to go on even longer. Problems at the VA no shit? Too many folks on SSDI no shit? Freedom isn't free boys especially after the troops start coming home.
