Kentucky Derby 5 May 2012

Liaison (because of the 7 letter thing)
Daddy Nose Best is my other pick
Went the day well.
I have a 3-4-14 box exacta and across the board on Take Charge Indy. AP Indy was one of Secretariats offspring and since they are showing Secretariat almost daily on the Starz network, and Calvin Borel is the jockey who's won 3 out of the last 5 derbies, I'll take my shot with Indy!!
My wife picked the winner. She liked the name.

Great race for those of us in Vancouver! The winning jockey has raced here at Hastings park for the past few years, and has been one of our top riders. As a result, pretty much everyone here had him as a pick on at least some of their tickets! I'd guess that 90% of the Exactas & Trifectas in this race were cashed here as a result. I've never seen anything like it!
The flood of people cashing was emptying the tills at the pay wickets faster than they could refill them! Just in the line ahead of me there were two men cashing $10 trifectas for over $13,000 each - made me feel like chump change with my $10 exacta for $1500+ and a $10 across the board for another $270!
I honestly can't remember ever seeing so many people cashing exotics on a race like this! Added to the pure joy of seeing a really nice guy have the ride of his life, it was quite a day here! The crowd went absolutely insane when he surged to the lead - the cheers were deafening as he went across the finish line! The only down side is that we probably won't see Mario Gutierrez back riding full time at Hastings Park anywhere in the near future. He is a well loved figure here, and we'll miss him a lot but wish him all the best opportunities that this win will open up for him!

Sounds like an absolute blast. Congrats on your "chump change" win.

Thanks! It was great and I'm quite happy with my Chump Change! I can't remember a Vancouver crowd being this excited at the track for a long time. I hope it translates into better attendance figures for the season here at Hastings now that people have been reminded how exciting the sport can be!
We watched the race at Parx just outside of Philadelphia and it was very crowded there. They even had mint juleps although the person in front of us in line got the last one. Some guy and his wife were asking if the race they bet was live at the Parx track. Some guy said the racing at Parx was done for the day so they must have bet an off track race. I looked at their tickets. Race 11 at Churchill Downs. Somehow they thought the Kentucky Derby was in Philadelphia? They were in front of me in line to cash their winning tickets.
I had $100 to win on "I'll have another".
"pecker" has not bet on a horse race in 20 years plus. The reason? I can't pick a winner to save my ass. Once again my pick "union rag" joins another in a long line of losers for the pecker. But, you do have to place a bet to actually lose money.
