It was a U.S. Senate hearing on whether to launch a military attack against Syria. From the photo's caption:

Senator John McCain plays poker on his IPhone during a U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing where Secretary of State JohnKerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey testify concerning the use of force in Syria, on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, Tuesday, September 3, 2013. I guess war's just not an important enough matter for Sen. McCain to bother paying attention. Inexcusable!

You're right! It is inexcusable that McCain supports the Obama administration on this matter so much that he doesn't need to pay attention to what Obama's puppets say. Especially Kerry.

I've seen people texting while driving when I've looked in my rear view mirror.
They are actually holding the phone in two hands at the top of the steering wheel.
Heck, the last thing I want is for them to rear-end me.

So I slow dowwwwwwwwwwn until they realize that I see them.
They put the phone down, then a couple of minutes later do it again, so I slow down again.

This keeps happening until one of us finally makes a turn.

Also, it drives me crazy when people are totally unaware of their surroundings
when either talking on the phone or texting while in a supermarket.
They are either standing in the aisles or slowly pushing the cart, clogging things up.

Good Thread Bob

My daughter lives in Las Vegas. Last week, 2 very good friends of hers, were riding motorcycles side by side. A teenage girl texting while driving , ran into them. She said she never saw them. They were both seriously injured.
DonDiego possesses no such devices.

He supposes that the twitterings and facebookings and overall texting must comprise predominantly very important matters to result in the thoughtless, uncourteous, impatient, . . . and occasionally dangerous behaviors of those engaging in the transmissions.
He is envious that everyone is so much more important than himself.

On the other hand shortly after awakening this morning, teechur and he observed a family of turkeys wandering about their yard for about a half-hour. DonDiego observed while leisurely drinking his morning coffee and thoroughly enjoying the Simple Life.

I'm sorry I did not mean to turn this thread at all political. And I mean that honestly, not in a DonDiego - 'wink wink' - way. I thought that McCain's tweet was funny, the hearing was just political theater anyway, and as long as McCain isn't behind the wheel, playing poker on an iPhone is a completely understandable alternative to listening to John Kerry for three hours.

And when I arrive at an unfamiliar restaurant, after a "Do you mind?," I check Yelp on my phone to see what people recommend. Nothing wrong with that.

I never Twittered in my life and probably don't ever plan to do something like that. I've never even been to the Twitter website.

Hmmm . . .

Is there a name for people who text while walking around aimlessly, oblivious to their surroundings?

If not, “wandering turkeys” works pretty well.

There is definitely a lesson to be learned from this. Motorcycles are dangerous.

You used to boast about twittering Sharlene in your ribald revelations.

I lost my account balances on a couple of online poker sites when they were "seized" by the Justice Department.

Yet the good Senator manages to play poker online, and admits losing.

In all fairness, I tried and was unable to make out the site logo/name, so do not know if it's a "real money" site, or "fun" site.

If it is a real money site, than I'm truly PO'd. IF it is a fun money site, I'm good with that and have no issues with his getting "caught".
