Is arguing taxable?

Actually I find it quite refreshing that Mr. Marcus chimed in with knowledgeable tax information...

He could have supplied all that info without him being a fucking asshole.
This isn't a discussion about taxes. It's a discussion about gambling and someone that freaking won a big bet. Yay, him.

Some people lack the social skills to tell the difference.
After seeing the posts (and being a bit surprised at the interest), I'll add a little more information. I didn't actually meet the gentleman personally, but I was given information about the matter by people who had.

The player had never bet in Las Vegas before - as a matter of fact, this was his first visit to Vegas. He's not a gambler, but making one huge bet was something he had wanted to do after coming into some money, and having read about the gambler years ago who made that suitcase bet at Binion's.

Honestly, though, I think he lost the ability to say he's not a gambler as soon as he bet $66k on a single spin.

And it was one huge bet. Why $66,200? I don't specifically know why the $66k, as he had originally inquired about up to $75k. I'm guessing he wanted some walking-around money while in Vegas, so held some back. The $200 was probably as a bet for the dealer, as I saw he tipped the dealer $400 after he won.

As soon as he won the bet, he walked the $132,000 in chips back to the cage, and had it wired back to his bank. No second bet - he apparently was very clear to the Binion's folks that it was going to be one bet, and one bet only, win or lose.

BTW, although you can buy a house here in Vegas for that, he was talking about buying a house in Hawaii - I think it's a lot more expensive there.

As far as "betting a suitcase" full of money, that has been done many times at Binions. Benny had a rule that whatever was your first bet, would be considered your "limit" and could bet that high as long as you were at the table. Rumor has it that some drug dealers from around the country, or abroad, would come into the casino and try out one those "limit" bets. If they lost, it was no biggie, as they probably had more suitcases up in the room to gamble with, but mostly it was a good way of "washing" money if they won.

There was another time that a man bet his whole life savings on one spin of the roulette wheel. For some reason, Binions wouldn't take the bet as I believe that they had changed ownership at the time and didn't want to gamble like Benny used to take bets. Wind up was, the Union Plaza wound up taking the action and it was televised with the whole nine yards of publicity. I think the guy put it all on black and black came in for a nice payout!

That sounds familiar, I think I saw that.

He gets off on calling me a dunce...I'm sure he wacks it to just about anything though.
He has such limited social skills.
He also can't seem to make many posts without editing...it's that "rush to judgement" getting in the way.

Treegirl rocks! If anybody is whacking anything then it might be Loyd to the new Treegirl photo. Loyd also rocks!

I've got to remember to use "H&R Blockhead" on someone. It's fantastic!

That's an interesting amount to bet. I wonder if they would have taken the bet if the payout was 2 to 1 or higher.

Don't get off topic here...someone will get his old lady panties in a wad.
I am glad the guy won.

On a side note, if he had $66,200 to wager, he already had enough money for a down payment and then some.

I believe my last line above actually addressed the topic . It would have been completely off-topic otherwise.
