After seeing the posts (and being a bit surprised at the interest), I'll add a little more information. I didn't actually meet the gentleman personally, but I was given information about the matter by people who had.
The player had never bet in Las Vegas before - as a matter of fact, this was his first visit to Vegas. He's not a gambler, but making one huge bet was something he had wanted to do after coming into some money, and having read about the gambler years ago who made that suitcase bet at Binion's.
Honestly, though, I think he lost the ability to say he's not a gambler as soon as he bet $66k on a single spin.
And it was one huge bet. Why $66,200? I don't specifically know why the $66k, as he had originally inquired about up to $75k. I'm guessing he wanted some walking-around money while in Vegas, so held some back. The $200 was probably as a bet for the dealer, as I saw he tipped the dealer $400 after he won.
As soon as he won the bet, he walked the $132,000 in chips back to the cage, and had it wired back to his bank. No second bet - he apparently was very clear to the Binion's folks that it was going to be one bet, and one bet only, win or lose.
BTW, although you can buy a house here in Vegas for that, he was talking about buying a house in Hawaii - I think it's a lot more expensive there.
