Non-gaming Hotels

I booked my trip for July staying at MGM Signature Suites. I arrive on July 5th and the room I rented through VRBO isn't available until the 6th. I didn't think it was a big deal because I could just stay at a different place one night. Unfortunately, we arrive in the middle of the holiday weekend and as of now, rates are outrageous. It kills me to have to pay $120 plus tax and resort fee for a Circus Circus type room. I'm thinking if we go away from the strip and downtown and just stay at a regular old hotel we might do better. We can go one night without a casino and fancy pool. Any suggestions as to where to stay? I will have a car.
The casinos help subsidize the rooms. How much is Silverton or that Coast casino a little further south?
How about the Orleans?
It's still quite a ways away so you can't even see a lot of hotels pricing yet. Orleans wasn't available so I assume Southpoint won't be either. I don't mind paying $120 for a room. I do mind paying $120 for a room at Circus Circus.

Vegas is the ultimate supply and demand city. The market demand for Friday night on a holiday weekend will command $100-plus at second rate hotels. Holiday weekends, Nascar, March Madness, Super Bowl, International CES, Electric Daisy Show are all tough as consumers unless you have an average daily theoretical gambling profile that could help your cause.
Holy cow, you're already booking next July? I would think 120/night will give you no shortage of options for a good room.
Check out Holiday Inn Club Vacations on Koval (behind Flamingo). those are awesome rooms and typically are within your price range.

Julie,

Have you checked into renting a time share for a night?

There is a big complex just south across the street from the South Point. The name escapes me at the moment.

Also check this out for $69 without any kind of discounts.

Red Roof Inn Las Vegas
4350 Paradise Road Las Vegas, NV 891696515 US 702-938-2000 - (RRI797)

Less than one mile from Las Vegas McCarran Airport and the Las Vegas Strip. Close to U.N.L.V and the Thomas and Mack Center and the Hard Rock Casino. Convenient to restaurants and shopping and offering free Wi-Fi, pool and fitness and Continental breakfast.
I have to book early. It's a really popular national dance competition. As of last week, the double queen rooms were sold out. The Red Roof Inn sounds fine to me. I don't need anything fancy. I'll have a better room the rest of the week. Thanks for the input.
Check your dancing shoes with the bellman, gamble all day and night.
Crap. Just realized that since it's a holiday weekend, rental cars will probably be high too. Maybe I'll drive instead. I'll bet if I traded my van for my mom's Honda Fit I'd save money over $600 in airfare plus the cost of the rental car. We can caravan with other families on the dance team and my daughter will have her learners permit so she can at least drive the Washington part. Has anyone ever driven from Seattle to Vegas? Would you do it again. I've driven from Seattle to Disneyland in one day no problem if that gives you an idea of my road trip tolerance.
