Non-Vegas question

Thanks for the replies . It helped with our "discusion"

I will be placing a $1 VP bet for each of you hopefully next week. So, If you are dealt 4 aces and a 10 do you want me to dump 3 of the aces and go for the royal???

For those curious there was a lot of bad info put out by the press. And of course the average person not involved with sailing don't have a real intrest. Understandably so. First accident out of San Fran, race boat got too close to island and was washed ashore by big waves, 5 died.
Second incident ws reported a sailboat run over by a big ship. Actually the sailboat ran into an island under auto pilot in benign conditions, 4 died.
Great offer - thanks.
I would take AAAA.
Odds of a Royal from 10, A are 16215 - 1

Saw something on Good Morning America over the weekend... about better regulations needs for boat races. Looked like a not very well put together story.

Why is the answer to everything more laws and regulations? Some things are just inherently more dangerous than sitting home on the couch.

Well, unfortunatly Rick, I really can't see any legislated rules or regulations, short of banning sailing, that would have prevented these accidents.
The accident in San Francisco was caused by a larger than average wave for the time and place. Wrong place at the wrong time.
The second Accident last weekend (in contrast to what was reported) was due to the sailors motoring into the sheer cliff of North Coronado island. The rules to prevent this are already in place, they were not followed.
As a competing yachtsman (yeah, that sounds pretentious) and active member of the sailing community I have much more inviolved and detailed information but it is long winded and of little intrest to the general population of the planet.

I read the SF Chron's coverage of the Farallones incident with 5 deaths. One of the dead was the beautiful daughter of an important SF Giants executive.

She was even a bat girl for the team for a while, and was the only member of the dugout to greet the despicable Barry Bonds at home plate after one of the more significant home runs he and his freelance pharmacist hit.
I was along on a couple trips 4-5 yrs ago moving a 65" yacht from tracy's landing md. to bethany bay and back again at the end of the summer. There were three of us and it was and while not a party trip, itwas a good time. Both trips had their share of mishaps but the biggest and most serious of which was on the return trip we were running late on getting to our stayover point and it got dark on us. QUICK. Somehow we got out of the lane coming up Del. bay and luckily we had just come off plane to try and see how much we were out of where we needed to be and WHAM!! Ran smack into a jetty. I ran downstairs and started ripping off all engine covers to see if we were taking on water and fortunately we weren't. We didn't sink so decided to motor on to stay over marina.
Tha next morning when we got to see the damage in the daylight, we found a gash about 4" X5' long and about a 8' ABOVE the water line. WHEW!!. Close one cause we woulda sunk for sure(no life threatening danger, water was only 5-6' deep and only 400 yards or so from shore) but would've ruined the day. Decided it was safe enough to make it back to tracy's and we did.
I think rod said it cost 20k or something to get it fixed, luckily ins covered it for him.

Flying out early tomorrow for Ely in the morning then have a hall pass to spend the evening in Vegas. Will be making those VP bets as promised. Did I say penny machines or dollars??
The plan was to find a good pay screen JoB machine at the Golden Nugget (where I usually stay), use my strategy card as a guide, and place the bets one at a time (1$ bet, max credit) in the order that I got the responses. Everyones responses through jatki99 even though my argument...I mean discusion, was over.
I have a question though. Since I will be in Ely it will be easy enough to stop in at the Hotel there and play a little VP. Is there anything to the thought that they might have a little better payout being so remote? Where would you rather the bet be made? I will try to remember to check the sight tomorrow morning before I leave.
