NOW They've Gone Too Far . . .

. . . with this climate change stuff:

"People should eat fewer baked beans to reduce flatulence which can contribute to global warming, a minister suggested today.
Fears were raised about the impact of ‘smelly emissions’ caused by Brits eating more beans than any other country in the world.
Climate change minister Lady Verma said it was an ‘important’ issue and urged the public to ‘moderate our behaviour’."
Ref: The Daily Mail

DonDiego, for one, intends to persist in ingesting baked beans at least as frequently as he has in the past, . . . if not more so. In fact, DonDiego encourages the USA readers, if any, to increase their intake of the delicious legumes available in a variety of scrumptious sauces to overcome the apparent gap with Great Britain.

Simple logic, who's fault was it when we had an ice age and a few "mini ice ages" and then warmed up very rapidly? This will be how a few elite oligarchs make huge sums of money. What a joke! The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!! and the sheep-le will follow, if the media says so when then it has to be true. Why do you think Al Gore will not debate anyone on the subject?

Another little secret the media never reports, we are finding more and more cities under water, even an island in the Atlantic that used to be on many maps. No longer there?

Those folks that have a cow with human flatus need to go measure the out put of bovines. Each one of those will produce a boatloat of methane that far exceeds the total out put of millions of humans over their entire lifetimes. Just saying..

The Environmental Protection Agency is already aware of the propensity for cattle to produce copious quantities of methane, . . . so they are discussing a fee [read: "tax"] on cattle.

". . . the American Farm Bureau Federation said, based on federal agriculture department figures, it would require farms or ranches with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs to pay an annual fee of about $175 for each dairy cow, $87.50 per head of beef cattle and $20 for each hog."
Ref: CBS News

n.b." . . . farmers in nations like Ireland and Denmark are forced to pay penalties as high as US$110 per cow to offset the global warming-causing flatulence."
Ref: msn money

"If you like your cow, . . . you can keep your cow. PERIOD."

So....Exactly how are these collected taxes and/or fees going to offset the introduction of methane gas into the environment? Can you fight global climate change with a big pile of money?
Livestock are one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases in the environment...and its not because they fart a lot. You have to take into account all of the energy, farmland, and resources used just to provide livestock feed....then transport it to livestock farms...then process livestock into meat....safely handle all of the livestock waste (its not a joke - there are communities suing farms for polluting local water supplies in Michigan)...and then transport the meat to consumers.

Studies show one of the best ways you can reduce your carbon footprint is to become a Vegetarian. I think I'll jut stick with hybrid cars for the time being. I like my hamburgers.

Oh you betcha.

Subsidies of alternative energy sources, like billion dollar wind farms, can help reduce greenhouse gasses. So can subsidies of more efficient automobiles. And here's a Vegas example: the Springs Preserve complex was built so efficiently and generates so much solar energy, that it actually returns energy to the grid. Did it cost more money to build it that way? I bet it did.

The above type of actions also typically create more jobs and lower overall energy costs, although it could be argued that somewhat higher taxes hurt the economy - of the Cayman Islands.

The bigger question is who pays for this tax on unproven theory? We do

OK, I'll buy that. I just don't like the idea of adding more financial strain to the small farmers and ranchers. The higher cost of production will lead to higher prices to the consumer which will hurt the poor disproportionately more than the better off. So the poor will need more subsidies in the form of welfare which will help to lock them in poverty. The money needed to do this just might have to be "borrowed" from the revenue from the "cow fart" tax taking away from the climate change war.
I am pessimistic because these things rarely ever work. I am all for less pollution, less use of fossil fuels, cleaner more efficient everything. But I do think taxing cow farts is going to far.

CowboyKell has left-out the part where because a cow-tax will add costs to producing beef and milk, . . . the price of beef and milk will have to go up, . . . and, therefore, demand will go down, and fewer cows and less milk will be produced AND consumed.

It's like a twofer; the Government raises money for itself AND people are controlled to eat less meat and animal protein. The less meat one eats, the less likely one is to resist the totalitarian takeover, . . . whether by the Government or by the unexpected arrival of superior alien lifeforms. Enforced vegetarianism will force mankind a mite lower down the food chain.

“Let every fart count as a peal of thunder for liberty. Let every fart remind the nation of how much it has let pass out of its control. So fart, and if you must, fart often. But always fart without apology. Fart for freedom, fart for liberty… and fart proudly!”
