There are some of you that are wondering what ever happened to my Silverton TR. well there is so much that has happened to us since and during our trip home, I just haven't had the time to write about it.
First of all, on the trip back from Vegas, Faye said she had to go to the bathroom and wasn't feeling well. I made a stop in barstow at Tommy's....where else..so Faye could have easy access to the bathroom. I parked on the side of Tommy's which would have easy access to the bathroom. Her caregiver and I got Faye's walker and tried to get her in the door. We were about 10 steps from the door when Faye said she was going to pass out and to call 911. I thought that was a little extreme and we made it back to the car so she could sit down. She felt a little better and I went in to get her some water and her favorite....ice.
While she relaxed in the car I ordered our Tommy's burgers and went back to the car. She felt like she would have to go back in the hospital when we got back.......and she did. I was so tired from driving that our dog sitter drove her to the hospital. She is having terrible potassium problem which could lead to heart failure. She spent 12 days in the hospital before we left and even though it stabilized, she was having the same problem again. This time she was there for 5 days.
Meanwhile....back at the ranch...our pet chocolate lab was having kidney problems. I had taken her to the vet about a month before we left and the vet broke the news that she had kidney disease and maybe we should "put her down"! Well not while I was living and breathing! She wasn't in a lot of pain, and I just refuse to put one of our animals down while there is still some hope and she isn't in pain. I made that decision with Faye's favorite pet, Townsley and he lived another month and Faye was able to cook his favorite turkey dinner before he died. He wound up dying in Faye's arms which is just the way she wanted it.
But when we got back, Sugar Bear just would eat a little at a time, and this was the dog we named "SUPER SCOOPER" because of the way she devoured her food. Then it happened...she refused to eat at all...1 day passed...then two. ..then 3-4-5! But we refused to let her die. At least she was drinking water and going outside to pee and poop.
I went out to Walmart and bought her baby food, and we started to inject it down her throat. Faye demanded that I bring her back to the vet. I already knew the results weren't going to be good. Sure enough, I weighed her on the scale, but she only lost 4.5 pounds. But the results were off the charts. Her kidney level had been at 120, and now it was 180, and that's the highest the vets scale went up to. So that could mean she could be 200-220. Not a good sign~
But we were going to fight for her life no matter what! As long as she wasn't in pain...she was going to be a member of the family. Even though we had her teeth cleaned and bad teethed removed about a year ago....they were bad again. Bad teeth can cause kidney disease.....but if we put her under to fix and clean her teeth she was a goner. So I took her home and prayed that the pain medication and antibiotics would keep her alive.
Everything is starting to get to me. Between Faye almost dying and Sugar Bear maybe right ahead or behind her...I'm starting to lose it. And to top it all off....a neighbor that lives right behind us and is a friend of Faye's...decided to commit suicide yesterday. She left a note on another neighbors car that she was going to commit suicide. I happened to wake up that morning at 3 am and was still awake at about 6 am when I heard a loud noise. Usually I get up to see what's going on, but I was so tired that I just laid there in bed. A minute later I heard the same noise and knew it was coming from in back of our house where the lady lived. NO, it wasn't gun shots. So I got up around 6:45 am and started to make coffee. I opened the kitchen shades only to see the paramedic truck roll up to the street behind us which borders our back yard. Next I heard the fire trucks siren. I watched the paramedics start to go to my neighbors house and I hoped that Peggy was OK. She had a large standard bred Poodle and cats and ducks and who knows what.
I went out to pick up some Yum-Yum Donuts for breakfast, but when I got back, Tommy told me the bad news. Peggy had left a note on a neighbors car that she was going to commit suicide. I guess the noise I heard was the neighbor tyring to break into Peggy's house to see if everything was Ok. Obviously it wasn't. The next thing I knew I was giving a statement to the Sheriffs deputy telling him about the "banging" noise I heard at 6 am. He wouldn't tell me how she died of even her last name. I assume that she died from an overdose and not from a gunshot wound. A deputy freind of mine said that that's the way women do it.
So pardon me if I'm a little late with my TR. I'll post it in the next few days assuming everything is OK in this household. I don't know what Faye will do if her Sugar Bear dies. She's Fayes baby, just like Sassy is mine. It really sucks as most of you know when you lose a family pet! Worst part is that we'll still have 5 more to go after Sugar Bear dies!
