Powerball gettin' back up there again

If I can't live on a minimum cash payout of about $1.5 from the Texas lotto drawing, I must be doing something wrong.

I do play the mega-millions also, but stopped the Powerball when they doubled the price.

DD,

remember when the prize gets to half a billion, the cash value is less. Which are you looking for?
Why would doubling the price make you stop playing? Same odds...just get more money for your "bet"@!
I bought just one ticket (figure if God wants me to win, then I only need one ticket).

I didn't even get one winning number.

I guess God wants me to keep on working.

"Thy Will Be Done", ................ Amen.

DonDiego doesn't comprehend. How/why would the cash value be less?

[n.b.] DonDiego asks the question only because he'd like to understand wrosie's assertion. If DonDiego were to actually win, say even as little as $50-million, . . . he would never concern himself with prices again. He would do whatever he wished (so long as it were legal) regardless of cost. He would be happy.]

If you win.Odds are so high, that will probably never happen. And when you lose, you lose twice as much.

The quoted dollar figures are annuitized over 20-30 yearly payouts.

The cash value option gives you a one time payout immediately. Since it isn't annuitized, it is less. The time value of money.

All true. That isn't what DonDiego read at first.

Nonetheless, DonDiego is way too old for a 30-year annuity. He wants cash so he can blow a significant portion on alcoholic beverages, his woman, and euphonious melodies. And the rest on something frivolous.

From somewhere on the internets:

"The winning numbers in Saturday night's drawing were: 21, 24, 36, 42, 45 and powerball 15. [For the record, poor old DonDiego has been all of those ages at one time or another.]

The Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated $400 million after no ticket matched all six numbers in this weekend's drawing."

If the jackpot is not hit on Wednesday, it would seem certain that the jackpot will exceed $half-a-billion for the saturday drawing.
I think I won $0.75 in the office pool.
